The AG-200A handheld high-precision ultrasonic thickness gauge, based on the principle of pulse reflection ultrasonic thickness measurement, can measure the thickness of various ultrasonic conductive materials and is widely used in various fields such as petroleum, chemical, metallurgy, etc. To ensure accurate and reliable measurement results, the following is a detailed operating procedure.
1、 Preparation before operation
(1) Environmental inspection: Choose an environment with no strong electromagnetic interference and suitable temperature for measurement to avoid environmental factors affecting the normal operation of the instrument.
(2) Instrument inspection: Check whether the appearance of the thickness gauge is intact, and whether the buttons and display screen are normal. Confirm that the battery is fully charged, which can be checked through the instrument's power indicator function. If the battery is low, it should be replaced or charged in a timely manner.
(3) Probe selection and installation: Select the appropriate probe (single crystal or twin crystal probe) based on the measurement material, thickness range, and measurement requirements. For example, DTM15 single crystal probes can be used to measure materials with a thickness range of 0.14-24mm; The BD212 twin probe can be used to measure steel with a thickness of 4-1800mm. Connect the selected probe correctly to the corresponding interface of the instrument, ensuring a secure connection.
(4) Preparation of Calibration Test Blocks: Prepare 4mm (steel) calibration test blocks that meet the requirements, ensuring that the surface of the test blocks is clean, free of oil stains, rust, and obvious scratches, and guaranteeing calibration accuracy.
(5) Test piece processing: Clean the coating, oil stains, rust, dust and other impurities on the measurement surface of the test piece to ensure a smooth and even surface, allowing ultrasonic waves to propagate smoothly. For situations where there is a coating on the surface but it needs to be measured through the coating, no coating is required, and the corresponding measurement mode can be selected later.
2、 Instrument calibration
(1) Turn on the power of the thickness gauge, select the Chinese or English display interface through the language setting function, and switch between millimeter or inch units (metric to imperial conversion) according to the measurement requirements.
(2) Entering calibration mode, the instrument supports single point calibration, multi-point calibration, and manual calibration modes, which can be selected according to the actual situation. Taking a commonly used point calibration as an example:
3、 Measurement operation
(1) Select the appropriate measurement mode based on the characteristics, thickness range, and surface condition of the tested material:
(2) Select numerical mode, and choose thickness value mode or difference/reduction rate mode according to your needs.
(3) Apply coupling agent evenly on the measuring surface of the probe, and vertically attach the probe to the measuring position of the measured part, ensuring that the probe is in close contact with the surface of the measured part and no bubbles are generated (the coupling status can be confirmed through the coupling indicator function).
(4) After the display screen values stabilize, record the measurement results. If A/B scanning function is required, you can switch to A-scan mode or B-scan mode to view waveforms and record relevant data.
(5) For multi-layer material measurement, the thickness values of each layer can be switched and displayed under the same echo, and the thickness data of each layer can be recorded sequentially.
(6) During the measurement process, if encountering materials with strong sound wave attenuation, the gain can be adjusted appropriately or a high-frequency probe (supporting 20MHz high-frequency probes) can be selected to obtain clear echo signals.
(7) If it is necessary to measure the thickness of the oxide layer/sediment on the inner wall of the pipeline or the thickness of the corroded metal material inside, the corresponding measurement mode and probe can be used for operation.
4、 Data storage and export
(1) During the measurement process, if data needs to be stored, the thickness value, A-scan waveform, and B-scan waveform can be stored inside the instrument through its storage function. The instrument supports large capacity storage and can store 100000 thickness values.
(2) After the measurement is completed, the stored data can be exported to the computer through relevant data interfaces for subsequent data analysis and archiving.
5、 Organize after operation
(1) Turn off the power of the thickness gauge. If it is not used for a long time, it can be automatically turned off (5 minutes, 10 minutes, 20 minutes optional) or manually turned off according to the settings to save power.
(2) Clean the coupling agent on the surface of the probe and wipe it clean with a clean soft cloth to avoid residual coupling agent affecting the performance of the probe.
(3) Organize the thickness gauge, probe, calibration block, and other accessories, and store them properly in the packaging box to avoid damage such as collision and moisture to the instrument.
(4) Record the usage of the instrument, including measurement time, information of the measured object, measurement results, etc., and establish a usage record.
