The important role of drilling measurement technology in preventing and controlling water in coal mines

1) In conventional drilling, the drilling trajectory is generally designed as a straight line, which is easy to construct and generally requires less drilling depth. But as the drilling depth increases (such as water release hole depth of 50-300 meters, mine geological drilling depth of 20-1200 meters), the deviation will become larger and even lose control, and the position of the drill bit cannot be found (as shown in the figure below).

2) In applications such as gas drainage drilling in coal mines and detection of geological anomalies (water containing areas) in coal mines, due to the constraints of geological conditions, it is required to set the drilling target point within a very small range. The use of near horizontal directional drilling technology for drilling construction is an effective way to solve these problems.

3) The reasons for the deviation of drilling holes are complex. Each drilling hole must be accurately drilled to the expected spatial position or ore distribution. However, during the drilling construction process, the deviation of the drilling tool from the designed drilling axis direction may occur due to the rotation of the rock fragmentation process. Geological structure is an important factor in borehole displacement, along with other factors such as Earth's gravity and technological processes.

4) Due to the time-consuming, labor-intensive, and extremely inconvenient operation of old-fashioned inclinometers, it is generally not used by operators during underground drilling construction unless absolutely necessary, making it difficult to effectively control and orient the drilling trajectory. Therefore, when the coal mine drilling team carries out advanced exploration and drilling construction in the mine, it is necessary to use a drilling directional measurement while drilling instrument to obtain the direction, angle, and depth parameters of the drill bit drilling, in order to control the directional drilling quality of the drilling rig and improve the target accuracy during long-distance drilling.

At present, the underground drilling technology in coal mines has developed from conventional rotary drilling technology to directional drilling technology. The joint exploration technology of surface and underground has been formed. Both surface and underground drilling machines have achieved the function of "measuring inclination while drilling and real-time correction", meeting the technical needs of exploring, verifying and treating hidden disaster causing factors.
