   The GCAN-601 conversion module from Guangcheng Technology is a newly developed embedded serial port to CAN module by our company. Compared with traditional conversion modules, this module uses 3.3V power supply and is very compact in size (22 * 13mm). Users can easily integrate the module into their own developed system and connect it to the UART serial bus of the MCU, thus enabling their CAN bus to have communication capabilities quickly and easily.

The converter supports serial communication rates ranging from 600~921600bps and CAN bus communication rates ranging from 5Kbps~1Mbps.


The converter provides three directions for data conversion: bidirectional conversion, CAN only → serial, and serial only → CAN.

Transparent Conversion”The meaning is that a converter simply converts one format of bus data into another format of bus data without attaching or modifying the data. This achieves the exchange of data formats without changing the data content, making the converter transparent to both ends of the bus.

This method does not increase the communication burden on users, but can convert data in real-time and handle the transmission of large amounts of data.

Transparent tape identification conversion”It is a special use of transparent conversion and does not come with an additional protocol. This conversion method is based on the common characteristics of serial frames and CAN messages, allowing these two different bus types to easily form the same communication network.

This method can convert the "address" in the serial frame into the identification field of the CAN message, where the starting position and length of the "address" in the serial frame can be configured. Therefore, in this method, the converter can adapt to the user's custom protocol to the maximum extent.

format conversion”It is a very intuitive conversion method, where each CAN frame contains 13 bytes, which define the CAN frame information+frame ID+frame data. Using a format conversion mode converter will automatically convert the 13 bytes of CAN bus data into serial port data and send it to the serial bus. The same applies to converting serial bus data to CAN bus.

  UART转CANmoduleCan quickly connect serial communication devices to CAN bus fieldbus. The module supports serial communication rates ranging from 600~921600bps and CAN bus communication rates ranging from 5Kbps~1Mbps. The module provides three data conversion modes: transparent conversion, transparent tape identification conversion, and format conversion, and is equipped with PC configuration software. Users can flexibly configure the operating parameters of the module.

The conversion between serial protocol and CAN protocol enables communication between serial devices and CAN networks. And this conversion is transparent to customers, in other words, users do not need to make any changes to the original serial communication software.

CANCOM is particularly suitable for low flow CAN bus data transmission applications, with a maximum data transmission rate of 400 frames per second. CANCOM adopts surface mounting technology and comes with an isolation module on the board, achieving complete electrical isolation between the control circuit and the CAN circuit. CANCOM also adopts lightning protection design, providing 600W lightning resistance per line, coupled with independent DC/DC power supply. This triple insurance design makes CAN-232/485 have strong anti-interference ability, greatly improving the reliability of the system in harsh environments.


Users can use CANCOM config Tools to configure the running parameters and modes of modules.

After opening the software, the interface is shown in the following figure. Select the serial port number to connect to CANCOM and click "Connect Device" to establish the connection. If the user does not know the serial port number, they can check it by entering the device manager on the PC. After clicking "Connect", the interface will pop up with "parameter reading successful", indicating that the current configuration status of the module has been read.

Enter the main interface of the software as shown in the figure below. The first tab allows you to configure the conversion parameters of the module. The first part allows you to set the conversion mode and direction (as described in the above three modes and three directions). The second and third parts correspond to the parameter configuration in the "Transparent Conversion" and "Transparent Band Identification Conversion" modes, respectively. Please refer to the user manual for details.

The second tab allows you to configure the baud rate and other basic parameters of the module's serial port. The serial port baud rate can support 600-115200bps, while other parameters remain default, as shown in the following figure.

The third tab allows for the configuration of CAN bus transmission parameters, including basic baud rates and frame types. CAN baud rates support 1000K, 500K, 250, 200K, 125K, 100K, 50K, 20K, and 10K, while other custom baud rates are currently not supported. The sending identifier can only be set in transparent conversion, and the CAN filter settings can be found in the SJA1000 user manual or in the module user manual. )
