Tonghui Programmable AC Voltage Tester TH9120A/TH9120DOverview
The TH9120A/TH9120D AC/DC withstand voltage insulation resistance tester is designed to provide high-voltage withstand voltage testing and analysis for devices with high insulation resistance, such as high-voltage optocouplers, high-voltage relays, high-voltage switches, PV modules, etc. In terms of withstand voltage testing, the output power is AC: 200VA (10kV, 20mA), DC: 120VA (12kV, 10mA), so it can be used for withstand voltage testing of high withstand voltage equipment such as stators and motors, and can also be used for the same testing of parts. In terms of insulation resistance testing, the display range is 0.1M Ω~50G Ω, and the test voltage can be set arbitrarily from 50V~5000V. In terms of short-circuit detection testing, it is possible to first determine whether the tested component is reliably connected before conducting high-voltage testing. In terms of display, all test modes, time, voltage, current, resistance values, test steps, etc. are displayed on the monitor. There is also a list display mode that shows the settings and sequential test results of multiple steps.
Insulation breakdown detection
The conventional test for withstand voltage, as shown in Figure A-1, only sets the rise time and test voltage value. If the tested part shows breakdown during the test time, the withstand voltage * * is judged and the test voltage is directly cut off. Therefore, conventional withstand voltage testing can only determine whether the withstand voltage is qualified at the set voltage.

However, for some passive components or materials, it is necessary to test their high voltage tolerance and obtain accurate breakdown voltage values, so conventional withstand voltage testing methods are powerless. Therefore, TH9120A/TH9120D has added a breakdown voltage detection function, as shown in Figure A-2. The breakdown voltage testing function gradually measures the tested part based on the set starting voltage, cut-off voltage, voltage step, and time interval of the climb. When the tested part shows the phenomenon of withstand voltage insulation * *, the voltage value at this time is automatically saved as the breakdown voltage.
If the voltage value climbs to the cut-off voltage and the tested component still does not collapse, the cut-off voltage can be reset for further analysis until the correct breakdown voltage value is obtained. The breakdown voltage testing mode can analyze the tested component and accurately determine the degree of insulation resistance, allowing researchers to improve the insulation weaker parts of the component.
Voltage withstand insulation testing and arc detection (ARC)
Voltage withstand * * refers to the occurrence of electrical flashover or insulation damage during voltage withstand testing. Nowadays, withstand voltage insulation testing has become a standard equipment for testing various electrical equipment and insulation materials. However, considering only insulation failure cannot completely solve the product's * * problem. Another phenomenon, arc discharge ARC, is receiving increasing attention in withstand voltage testing. There is a high correlation between discharge and insulation ability, so ARC detection is the key to controlling product quality.
There are two situations where arc discharge occurs:
a) When a material is subjected to high voltage and the electric field strength is greater than the ionization energy of the gas, it will cause instantaneous ionization of the gas on the surface of the material, resulting in ignition and temperature rise on the material surface. Long term ignition and temperature rise may cause material quality changes, leading to insulation degradation and a decrease in voltage tolerance, ultimately resulting in insulation failure.
b) When the distance between the detection points of the test piece is too small, applying a high voltage at both ends of the test piece will ionize the air in the space between the two ends of the detection point, forming a sparking phenomenon, that is, the arc pulling phenomenon. The phenomenon of arcing generates high-frequency instantaneous discharge, which produces a high-frequency current signal during the testing process as shown in the figure. The arc detection (ARC) function uses high-frequency electrical measurement to detect and determine whether the insulation performance of the material is good.
Open short circuit detection function (TH9120A only)
During the withstand voltage test, open circuits may occur due to contact between the tested component and the test line, or damage to the test line, leading to a misjudgment of the product as good; If the tested component is damaged or the distance between the tested ends is too small, resulting in a short circuit in the test line, the OCS function can be used to detect the short circuit situation at the test end in advance, reducing damage to the fixture equipment and saving testing costs.
