Steady-state solar simulatorThe radiation intensity of sunlight in free space at its average distance to Earth is defined as the solar constant, with a value of 1353W/m2. The degree to which the atmosphere affects the reception of sunlight on the Earth's surface is defined as the air mass. The state of zero atmospheric quality (AM0) refers to the situation where sunlight is received in outer space, suitable for applications such as artificial satellites and spacecraft. The state of atmospheric quality 1 (AM1) refers to the situation where sunlight directly shines vertically on the Earth's surface, with an incident light power of 925 W/m2.

Equivalent to the sunlight that a clear summer day can withstand at sea level. The difference between these two lies in the attenuation of sunlight by the atmosphere, mainly including the absorption of ultraviolet rays by the ozone layer, the absorption of infrared rays by water vapor, and the scattering of dust and suspended particles in the atmosphere. When the angle between the incident angle of sunlight and the ground is 0, the atmospheric mass is AM=1/cos 0. When 0=48.2%, the atmospheric mass is AM 1.5, which refers to the situation where sunlight shines on the general ground on a typical sunny day, with a total radiation of 1kW/m2. It is commonly used as a standard for efficiency testing of solar cells and modules.
