Overview

● Debugging and analysis of single line CAN ● Expansion of dual line CAN to support single line CAN

Product Details

A single line CAN network refers to a network that can perform CAN communication using only one CAN signal line (usually using two differential signal lines: CAN_S and CAN_L). Single line CAN technology is widely used in motor vehicles. As the car body can serve as the "ground" of the bus, single line CAN can use a data line to connect various communication modules inside the vehicle, thereby greatly reducing wiring costs. However, the maximum transmission speed of the bus is significantly lower than that of the high-speed CAN bus.

By using the CAN-SW single wire CAN converter, our company's USB-CAN devices can be connected to a single wire CAN network (SAE J2411). The CAN-SW module is specifically designed for our company's DB9 interface CAN card and uses the DB9 interface male to female connection method to quickly connect the CAN card to the CAN-SW and connect to the single wire CAN network.

This model of single wire CAN converter needs to be used with our company's DB9 interface CAN card, such as:USBCAN-I ProTheUSBCAN-I Mini.

  The regular CAN interface supports the CAN2.0A/B protocol and complies with the ISO/DIS11898 specification;

  Single line CAN supports low-speed 33.33K and high-speed 83.33K baud rates;

  Plug and play, no configuration required;

  Adopting electrical isolation, isolation module insulation voltage: DC 1000V;

  Compact size, plug and play;

  Working temperature range: -40 ℃~+70 ℃;

  Single line CAN terminal+5V 150mA output optional;

  Dimensions: (length) 63mm * (width) 34mm * (height) 19mm.

As an additional module for our company's DB9 interface CAN card, CAN-SW can be directly connected to the DB9 interface CAN card.

  Optional supply voltage Vmain

CAN-SW does not require additional power supply and can work normally when used in conjunction with our DB9 interface device. The single wire CAN terminal can provide a+5V 150mA power supply for users to choose whether they need it or not. The power supply comes from the computer USB terminal. If a short circuit occurs, it will cause the computer USB protection and the CAN device will not work properly.

  Ordinary CAN terminal resistor

The ordinary CAN terminal does not integrate a 120 Ω terminal resistor between CAN_S and CAN_L. If a terminal resistor is required, the user needs to connect it externally.

  Single line CAN grounding

The single wire CAN terminal GND pin must be strictly grounded, and in motor vehicles, it is often connected to the body of the vehicle.

  Single wire CAN terminal resistor

At the single wire CAN end of CAN-SW, CAN-H and GND are in a high impedance state. The single wire CAN specification does not define the need for external terminal resistors.

  Single line CAN operation mode

The CAN-SW module supports two different single wire CAN modes - normal mode (33.33Kbit/s) and high-speed mode (83.33Kbit/s). There is no need to select a switch to automatically switch between the two modes.

Normal mode:

This mode is used for normal operation, with a CAN bit rate of 33.33Kbit/s. The single wire CAN output terminal has a signal waveform that can control the voltage conversion speed and rising and falling edges, thus ensuring the minimization of EM radiation.

High speed mode:

CAN-SW supports a high-speed mode of 83.33Kbit/s for easy data diagnosis using software. Compared to normal mode, the bus data transfer speed is faster, resulting in a decrease in EMC performance.

High speed mode is only applicable in special situations, not in the conventional state of single wire CAN.

  CAN bus baud rate

When users use CAN-SW converters, it is necessary to ensure that the baud rate of the regular CAN terminal is consistent with that of the single wire CAN terminal. The most common single line CAN baud rates are 33.33Kbit/s and 83.33Kbit/s.
