Ultrasonic suspension can be divided into two types according to its mechanism: near-field suspension and standing wave suspension. The distance of near-field suspension is very small, but it can suspend objects of large mass (up to tens of kilograms). Standing wave suspension mainly uses the superposition of sound waves to form standing waves, which then suspend objects. Compared with incoming suspension, it can suspend a series of objects of equal height, but the mass of the objects is very small.

Principle and device
Figure 1 is a schematic diagram of the principle of single axis acoustic levitation. The piston sound source is installed at the lower part of the elongated tube, with a reflector on the opposite side of the piston radiation surface, establishing a standing wave sound field in between. The distance between the radiating surface and the reflecting surface is an integer multiple of half the wavelength. When the radiation pressure in the sound field is balanced with the gravity of an object, the object is suspended in space. This single axis acoustic suspension device can stably suspend at any position within the sound pressure plane if it is an ideal planar standing wave sound field. However, in reality, the vibration of the radiation surface cannot be uniformly distributed and the plane is not infinitely large. Therefore, the sound pressure distribution on the small plane is uneven, with peaks and valleys, and the object is stably suspended on the valleys. If the distance of the reflector or the frequency of the vibration source is changed, the movement of the suspension in space can be achieved.
