Overview

With the in-depth study of the large deformation performance of components, such as the ductility research of seismic and blast resistant structures, it is necessary to measure the entire strain process of concrete and steel bars in the components during structural testing. However, the original methods of attaching resistance strain gauges or adhesive displacement gauges to steel bars or concrete can no longer meet the requirements. To this end, the Anti seismic and Anti explosion Engineering Research Laboratory of Tsinghua University has developed a distance measuring instrument for crack compression deformation using a guide rod extensometer, which successfully achieves the full process measurement of the local section of the specimen from elastic to plastic stage. It can measure the strain changes between the predetermined gauge lengths in the specimen under any load force.

In recent years, with the continuous development of research on reinforced concrete structures, especially the requirement for in-depth study of the large deformation performance of components (such as the ductility research of seismic and blast resistant structures), it is necessary to measure the entire strain process of concrete and steel bars in the components from the elastic stage to the plastic stage during structural testing. However, the original testing methods (attaching resistance strain gauges or adhesive displacement gauges on steel bars or concrete) can no longer meet the requirements. To this end,Tsinghua University Seismic and Explosion resistant Engineering Research LaboratoryDeveloped a guide rod extensometer. The advantage of the guide rod extensometer is that it can smoothly measure the entire process of the local section of the specimen from elastic to plastic stage. It can measure the strain changes between predetermined gauge lengths in the specimen under any load force. From the signals output by its displacement sensor, physical quantities such as strain, curvature, rotation angle, shear deformation, and relative slip of the specimen can be obtained,Especially when there are gaps, local yielding, or breakage in the specimen material, satisfactory results can still be achieved.
