The mining industry uses certified reference materials as quality control samples to validate the analysis of real geological samples in preparation and instrument analysis. This application brief will outline the process of preparing and analyzing gold (Au), palladium (Pd), and platinum (Pt) gold (Pt) samples using fire assay technology in several CRMs made from real geological samples. CRM is shown in Table 1.

The MICAP-OES 1000 plasma spectrometer is a microwave indicator coupled atmospheric plasma emission spectrometer (MICAP-OES 1000) with a power of 1000W. This innovative nitrogen based plasma source replaces traditional argon plasma technology. This can only be achieved through the use of Radom's CER-AWAVETM technology, which replaces the metal water-cooled coils in today's commercially available ICP-OES instruments.


The plasma source is coupled with a research level spectrometer based on a mid step through fiber optic connection. Axial observation through automatic optimization of plasma tail removal. The welding gun alignment system ensures excellent observation position. Capture the entire mid step grating spectrum (194nm to 625nm+766nm) simultaneously during each repeated measurement.

MICAP-OES 1000 is a powerful metal analysis instrument technology. This instrument provides fast and synchronized sample measurement without the need for multiple preparation steps. In addition, low carbon footprint instruments are used for analysis without the need for combustible gases, and argon gas and coolers are continuously used. Its advantages are low analysis cost, ease of use, and reduced chemical waste and carbon emissions.

The CRM debris samples are from a commercial mining laboratory, each sample consisting of 10-30 milligrams of ingots, and the fire assay results start from~30 grams of samples. Add 1 mL of 50% nitric acid to the sample bottle and heat it for 15 minutes in the SCP Science DigiPrep Jr thermal module set at 90 ° C. Then cool the sample, add 2 mL of concentrated hydrochloric acid, heat for another 15 minutes, and then cool. Cool the digested test solution to room temperature and dilute it to 10mL with Type I DI water.


Plasma spectrometer: Standard preparation

The rinse solution and standard diluent are prepared as 20% HCl and 5% HNO3. Prepare working standards containing gold (Au), palladium (Pd), and platinum (Pt) at concentrations shown in Table 2.

Table 3 summarizes the MICAP-OES 1000 sample introduction components used in this study.
