Overview
In the face of numerous existing and newly developed ultra-low sulfur fuel oils, it is necessary to comprehensively consider their stability and mixing compatibility characteristics. This situation may also exist with other fuels, including biofuels. By taking proactive measures and embracing technology, issues related to these features can be avoided.
DK PL010 seriesOil stability and compatibility analyzerShipbuilding industryIt is an instrument developed by Duke Tech for analyzing the stability and compatibility of asphaltene in heavy oil/crude oil. It complies with ASTM D7112 standard. The product has been continuously improved in collaboration with customers, thereby enhancing reliability, simplifying user experience, and providing comprehensive customer support.
It can not only provide conventional stability parameters (solvent equivalent and P-value), but also output stability parameters that characterize the flocculation trend of asphaltene in oil products, which is crucial for describing the storage life and compatibility of heavy oil products.
Technical Solution
The DK PL010 series from Duke Tech is an easy-to-use, reliable, and fast analytical instrument used to measure the stability of oil products and predict their compatibility with mixtures. This mature technology can provide safety assurance for the fuel filling process, helping to avoid unplanned maintenance and reduce downtime.
The analyzer is used to predict the safe mixing ratio between different fuels by measuring the compatibility parameters of the fuel mixture. Even for fuels without asphalt, their mixing parameters can be measured. Unlike other similar analyzers, the DK PL010 series is capable of measuring stability and compatibility parameters of fuels with extremely low asphaltene content.
Usually, even fuels with low asphaltene content may encounter stability and compatibility issues, which can lead to blockages, serious problems, and even engine failures on board. In addition, the analyzer is also suitable for analyzing fuels with high asphalt content.

Measurement steps
Preparation of mother liquor: Mix xylene with the oil sample to be tested. Weigh 20 grams of xylene and 40 grams of oil sample and place them in a mixing bottle. Shake the solution for 60 seconds.
Sample packaging: Weigh 7.5 grams, 11.2 grams, and 15 grams of mother liquor respectively and place them in three sample cups, then place them on the sample turntable. The analyzer automatically prepares three different dilution ratios of oil and xylene mixture.
Operation analysis: The analyzer automatically titrates with heptane. Using visible light scattering optical detection, the precipitation point of asphalt was detected on the titration curves (inflection points) of all three sample cups.

Output result: The analyzer will output a complete set of parameters, including stability P-value, solvent equivalence FR5/1, solubility mixing value SBN, and insoluble substance value IN.
Paraffin titration curves of different types of samples; The red circle represents the turning point, which is the location where asphalt precipitates.
feature
Non contact, easy to install, easy to calibrate
The system is capable of actively testing fuel compatibility
Determine stability and compatibility parameters, including IN (insoluble matter value) and SBN (solubility blending value)
Complies with standardized testing method ASTM D7112
Can use different combinations of paraffin and aromatic solvents
The system automatically cleans at the end of each testing program
advantage
Provide peace of mind and eliminate costs and delays caused by incompatible or inferior fuel
The analyzer allows users to check the compatibility and stability of the fuel in the tank and any newly introduced fuel before refueling
This solution can be used to optimize the mixing of different fuels
User friendly sample preparation and automated analysis, reducing user time and minimizing errors to the greatest extent possible
In rapid screening mode, the system can determine the optimal operating parameters for unknown samples
The system can significantly reduce the amount of oil sludge generated and related processing costs

The result of non optimized fuel mixing
application
Minimize (usually manual) sludge cleaning and maintenance work to the greatest extent possible
Reduce unplanned maintenance and fuel tank cleaning time, costs, and delays
Reduce the cost of sludge and sludge treatment for onshore receiving facilities
Avoid fuel supply interruption (or worst-case loss of propulsion)
Avoiding demurrage risk - i.e. avoiding loss of shipping schedule and additional port berthing fees
Avoiding costly engine failures, such as combustion damage caused by excessive cylinder fouling and differences in thermal load between cylinders
Improve the working efficiency of separators and filters
Optimize fuel consumption, ensure the effective utilization of fuel is converted into cost savings, and accurately reflect the calculation results of ship carbon intensity index (CCI)
