● Modbus protocol serial communication converted to CAN communication ● PLC, DCS and other serial devices connected to CAN bus network online engineer phone:
The GCAN-204 module is an industrial grade CAN bus and serial bus communication connector (module) that integrates one standard CAN bus interface and one standard serial interface. The serial bus end of the GCAN-204 module has integrated the Modbus RTU protocol. By using the GCAN-204 module, users can obtain a CAN bus communication interface for devices that originally used the serial bus for communication (Modbus RTU protocol) without changing the original hardware structure. This enables devices that use Modbus RTU protocol for communication to quickly connect to the CAN bus, forming a CAN bus network control node for data processing and data acquisition in CAN bus network fields such as fieldbus laboratories, industrial control, intelligent communities, and automotive electronic networks.
When the GCAN-204 module reads data from Modbus, it will real-time load the data received on the CAN bus into the cache and wait for Modbus commands to read. After receiving the Modbus read command, the module will convert the specified CAN data and send it to the Modbus bus; When the module receives a Modbus data transmission command, it will directly process the Modbus data and send it to the CAN bus.
The GCAN-204 module is a key tool for industrial bus transformation and interconnection of multiple bus devices. At the same time, this module has the characteristics of small size, plug and play, and is also the best choice for existing system integration. The various bus interfaces of GCAN-204 are integrated with isolation protection modules to prevent damage to the module caused by instantaneous overvoltage and overcurrent. The use of DIN rail fixation makes it easier to integrate into various control cabinets.
Basic parameter configuration
Use the Modbus RTU CAN Config software included in the CD to configure the basic parameters of the module.
There are 5 tool buttons above the software:
Connect "- Connect devices;
Upload "- Read out the configuration information from the device;
DownLoad "- Download configuration information to the device's Flash;
Open "- Open to read the configuration confidence file from the PC;
Save As "- Save the configuration information file to the computer.
After connection, a list of device settings will be displayed in the left column of the software interface. At this time, you can click "UpLoad" to upload the parameters in the device to the computer.
Configure basic communication information
Configure the basic baud rate for both buses in the "Communication Set" tab. The factory default setting for Modbus RTU port baud rate is 57600, and for CAN bus baud rate is 250k.
Set the CAN data receiving mapping table corresponding to Modbus RTU
The GCAN-204 module will cache the received CAN frame data in the Modbus/TCP address table according to the pre-set correspondence, waiting for Modbus commands to read.
By default, the number of mapping table groups for Receive and Transmit at the factory is 0, which means there is no data mapping relationship. You can add mapping data by pressing Add in the bottom right column of the interface, with a maximum of 32 groups added.
Set the CAN data transmission mapping table corresponding to Moddbus RTU
CAN data transmission can be set with data trigger mode and loop transmission mode (Trace/Timer).
Data triggering mode: When a Modbus host writes Modbus corresponding address data with the 06 command, if the data changes, it triggers the corresponding CAN frame data transmission;
Loop sending mode: Set a certain interval to send the corresponding CAN frame data in a loop. The interval time is set in the Send Timer, input in decimal, and the unit is milliseconds. For example, if you input 1000, it will be sent every 1000ms.
After the configuration is completed, you can click "DownLoad" in the toolbar to write the configuration data to the device's FLASH. After the data is successfully written, you need to power on again to enable the new settings.
