The single component reagent uses methanol as the solvent and contains elemental iodine, sulfur dioxide, and pyridine (or imidazole). This configuration causes the concentration of the reagent to decrease with use, so it needs to be calibrated daily. Two component reagents consist of titrants (iodine dissolved in alcohol) and solvents (alcohols containing sulfur dioxide and organic bases), which have higher stability, longer shelf life, and faster reaction rate, but are more expensive.
Coulombic reagent is mainly used for Coulombic determination, which generates iodine through electrolysis for measurement, with an accuracy of up to 1ppm.
