1) Analyze the controlled object and propose control requirements

Detailed analysis of the process and working characteristics of the controlled object, understanding the coordination between the machine, electricity, and liquid of the controlled object, proposing the control requirements of the controlled object for the PLC control system, determining the control scheme, and drafting the design task book.

(2) Determine input/output devices

According to the control requirements of the system, determine all the input devices (such as buttons, position switches, transfer switches, and various sensors) and output devices (such as contactors, solenoid valves, signal indicator lights, and other actuators) required by the system, in order to determine the input/output devices related to the PLC and determine the number of I/O points of the PLC.

(3) Select PLC

The selection of PLC includes the selection of PLC model, capacity, I/O module, power supply, etc., as detailed in Section 2 of this chapter.

(4) Allocate I/O points and design PLC peripheral hardware circuits

1. Allocate I/O points

Draw a connection diagram or correspondence table between the I/O points of the PLC and the input/output devices, which can also be done in step 2.

2. Design PLC peripheral hardware circuits

Draw electrical circuit diagrams for other parts of the system, including the main circuit and control circuits that have not entered the programmable controller.

The electrical schematic diagram of the system is composed of the I/O connection diagram of the PLC and the peripheral electrical circuit diagram of the PLC. So far, the hardware and electrical circuits of the system have been determined.
