When the master cylinder piston descends, the oil pump supply is small, and the piston descends due to its own weight, causing the upper chamber of the master cylinder to be in a vacuum state. The valve port of the charging valve is opened (the inverted conical valve core is closed by the spring pressing upwards), and the oil in the upper oil tank is put into the upper chamber of the master cylinder.

After the piston is in place, the spring closes the oil charging valve, and the compressor works under the oil pump supply pressure. Then the piston needs to reverse upwards, and the oil pump supplies oil to the lower chamber of the master cylinder. Before the piston moves, there is pressure in the lower chamber, and a small pipe leads this pressure to the charging valve to open it. When the piston rises, the oil in the upper chamber returns to the upper oil tank.

After the upper tank is full, there is a large pipe that guides the excess oil back to the lower tank. The filling valve is generally used as a suction and discharge valve between the hydraulic cylinder and the oil tank. For the fast forward stroke of a large press, oil needs to be sucked from the oil cylinder to the oil tank to prevent it from flowing into the oil tank during pressurization, and to discharge oil from the oil cylinder to the oil tank in reverse. The flange type filling valve has a small volume, a large flow rate and no leakage, and can be directly welded or used. The maximum flow rate is obtained when the pressure loss is 0.03 MPa during free flow. The flow rate is about 3.5m/sec.

The minimum hydraulic control pressure ratio is determined by the area ratio between the valve seat and the hydraulic control pressure receiving part. When returning, the pressure must be released first, otherwise it may not be able to open or cause impact. When the oil cylinder it controls passively advances, the control oil is pressure oil, and the filling valve opens. The filling valve chamber of the oil cylinder absorbs a large amount of oil due to vacuum. When pressure needs to be increased to continue advancing, the control pressure oil is disconnected, the filling valve closes, and the filling valve chamber of the oil cylinder slowly advances with high-pressure oil. On the return trip, the filling valve opens again and the oil quickly returns to the tank through the filling valve.
