The application of solar spectral irradiance measurement includes scientific meteorology, climate observation, material testing research, evaluation of solar panel efficiency, and renewable energy from solar energy. Outside the atmosphere, the solar spectrum can be seen as a full band electromagnetic spectrum. However, on the surface, due to the influence of atmospheric environment, the solar spectrum has many characteristics. Therefore, outdoor solar spectrum monitoring is increasingly being used to obtain the luminescence characteristics of the sun, understand the transmission law of light in the atmosphere, and achieve monitoring of atmospheric components.
The fully automatic solar spectrophotometer (solar photometer) launched by Avantes in the Netherlands can directly measure solar irradiance data and use it to invert and calculate atmospheric transmittance, extinction optical thickness, aerosol optical thickness, total atmospheric water vapor column, and ozone content. The system is equipped with a solar tracking module and an optical acquisition module, which can automatically collect solar spectral irradiance based on GPS information. The system spectroradiometer module has two configurations: one measures the direct spectral irradiance distribution of the sun (connected to the solar tracking system through a cosine correction probe with a 5 ° field of view angle), and the other measures the total solar irradiance (connected to the solar tracking system through an all day cosine receiving probe).
