Liquid liquid extraction refers to the process where both the solution (aqueous phase) containing the sample and the extractant (oil phase) are liquids. Oil is lighter than water, so the oil phase is above the water phase and there is a boundary between the two phases. The solution and extractant do not react and are immiscible with each other.

The extraction operation is as follows:

1. Check the sealing of the separating funnel;

2. Pour the solution and extractant from the upper opening of the separating funnel in sequence, with a liquid volume not exceeding 3/4 of the separating funnel;

3. Secure the bottle stopper, press it and flip it up and down to shake it, and rotate the piston at the appropriate time to release gas;

4. Stop shaking and let the separating funnel stand on the iron frame for a moment to extract the solution layer by layer;

5. Stop shaking and let the separating funnel stand on the iron platform for a moment. The solution will separate into layers and the extraction will be completed.
