1、 Instrument Introduction
Biochemical oxygen demand BOD5 is a necessary measurement item for water quality evaluation and an important quality indicator for measuring the impact of organic matter on water pollution. The traditional method for determining BOD5 uses chemical dilution, which is cumbersome to operate and requires high experimental skills from analysts. The experimental data has a high degree of variability, often resulting in inaccurate experimental results.

Inject the water sample or pre treated water sample into a culture bottle, and place a carbon dioxide absorbent (NaOH) in the absorption cup at the bottle mouth. Then seal the culture bottle and place it in a biochemical incubator. After the tested sample is incubated at a constant temperature of 20 ± 1 ℃ for five days, the water sample in the bottle undergoes biological oxidation reaction at a certain stirring speed. Organic matter is converted into oxides of nitrogen, carbon, and sulfur, and produces carbon dioxide gas that is absorbed by sodium hydroxide. The oxygen in the upper space of the culture bottle continuously supplies the oxygen demand of microorganisms in the water sample, creating a pressure difference inside the culture bottle. By detecting the height of mercury in the glass tube, the BOD value of the water sample during the specified measurement period can be calculated.
