Control of Noise from Air Compressors

1. Install muffler

The main sources of noise are the intake and exhaust ports, and suitable intake and exhaust mufflers should be selected. The frequency spectrum of the intake noise of the air compressor exhibits low-frequency characteristics, and the intake muffler should use a resistant structure or an impedance composite structure with resistance as the main component. The exhaust pressure of the air compressor is high and the airflow velocity is high, so a small hole muffler should be used at the exhaust port of the air compressor.

2. Set up soundproof tunnels

An underground or semi underground tunnel with sound-absorbing walls made of bricks. Connect the intake pipe of the air compressor to the soundproof tunnel, allowing air to enter the compressor through the soundproof tunnel. The use of soundproof tunnels can greatly reduce the intake noise of air compressors and have a longer service life than general mufflers.

3. Establish a soundproof enclosure

After installing mufflers or setting up soundproof tunnels at the inlet and outlet of the air compressor, the airflow noise can be reduced to below 80db (a), but the mechanical and motor noise of the air compressor is still high, so soundproof covers should also be installed on the air compressor unit. 4. Hanging space sound-absorbing body: At the Linggefeng air compressor station in Foshan, the tall and spacious factory building has heavy reverberation. If sound absorbers are dispersed and hung on the ceiling of the factory building, the noise of the factory building can be reduced by 3-10dB (a), and the reverberation time can be reduced by 5-10 seconds.
