Medium pressure ultraviolet radiation can effectively remove residual chlorine from water; It can be widely used in processes such as purified water, food and beverage, electronics, medicine, cosmetics, etc.

1、 The hazards of residual chlorine

Residual chlorine disinfection technology is widely used, with about 80% of countries or regions worldwide using chlorine to disinfect municipal tap water. But with the development of technology and the progress of the times, the disadvantages of residual chlorine are becoming increasingly apparent:

1. Residual chlorine can produce odors and be harmful to the respiratory system;

2. Residual chlorine is prone to react with organic matter in water, generating carcinogens such as chlorine;

3. As a production raw material, it may have adverse effects and reduce product quality.

2、 Traditional dechlorination methods

There are two traditional methods for removing residual chlorine.

One method is activated carbon filtration adsorption reduction, which has the advantage of significantly removing residual chlorine in water, but the disadvantage is the need for regular replacement of activated carbon and strict operation management and disinfection measures.

The second method is NaHS03 reduction, which uses chemical addition to treat residual chlorine in water. Its advantages are low cost and easy operation; Its disadvantage is low system reliability, which requires further processing to remove the added agents.

3、 Medium pressure ultraviolet dechlorination method

In addition to the above methods, medium pressure ultraviolet radiation can also be used for the removal of residual chlorine in water. 100% photolysis of residual chlorine can be achieved through the action of ultraviolet light.

Compared with the traditional dechlorination techniques of NaHS03 reduction and activated carbon reduction, ultraviolet dechlorination has the following process advantages:

(1) Thoroughly inactivate microorganisms in the source water while removing residual chlorine to avoid microbial contamination of the RO system;

(2) Ensure microbial safety from the source and improve the quality of incoming water in the system;

(3) Allow online monitoring of ultraviolet intensity and dose display, which can accurately predict the dechlorination effect;

(4) Small footprint, and the system itself is very clean, without the need for regular cleaning and disinfection;

(5) No chemicals need to be added, which can avoid scaling problems.

(6) At the same time, the decomposition efficiency of residual chlorine by medium voltage multispectral ultraviolet is much better than that of low-pressure monochromatic ultraviolet. Using medium voltage multispectral ultraviolet to remove residual chlorine can effectively reduce the number of ultraviolet lamps, thereby reducing the initial investment cost and subsequent maintenance cost of the system.
