The 2025 edition of the Chinese Pharmacopoeia has undergone a major revision to the 'Guidelines for the Determination of Fungal Toxins in Traditional Chinese Medicine (9305 General Principles)', aiming to comprehensively and scientifically control the safety of traditional Chinese medicine.

1、 Main update direction and specific content

（1） Addition of fungal toxin types: covering highly toxic, highly contaminated, and highly concerned fungal toxins produced by the five major toxin producing genera, and introducing the concept of 'hidden fungal toxins';

（2） New high-throughput detection method: A method for rapid screening of 33 fungal toxins using high-performance liquid chromatography triple quadrupole mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS/MS) has been added;

（3） System introduction of detection methods: Detailed explanation of the characteristics, application strategies, and practical testing requirements of different measurement methods.

（4） New quantitative detection methods: Two quantitative detection methods, high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS), have been added for the detection of quercetin;

2、 Strengthening and implementation of testing requirements

（1） Huangqi and Betel Nut: Added inspection item for ochratoxin A;

（2） Fried Coix seed slices with bran: added inspection items for aflatoxin and zearalenone;

（3） Red yeast: The inspection items for orange green extract have been formulated, which is particularly important for preparations made from red yeast (such as Xuezhikang).

3、 Summary

This revision is mainly to cope with the trend of specific mycotoxin pollution found in more and more Chinese medicinal materials, decoction pieces and traditional Chinese patent medicines and simple preparations. The mycotoxin types with clear toxicity are frequently detected in Chinese traditional medicine. More efficient screening and detection methods are urgently needed to improve the accuracy and flux of detection.
