Archaeology field: digital technology reconstructs historical narratives

At the excavation site of a certain site, a team from the School of Archaeology at Shandong University successfully constructed a millimeter level precision 3D model of the site using a 3D laser scanner. The traditional archaeological record keeping method relies on manual drawing and two-dimensional photography, which often leads to the omission of key information. The equipment of Beijing Zhongxian can complete the digital archiving of the entire site within 24 hours. Through the dynamic timeline function, researchers can intuitively trace the excavation process, just like playing a historical documentary.

This technology has been applied to archaeological projects such as the ancient city of Qi in Linzi, Shandong, and has generated high-precision 3D data exceeding 3TB, assisting in the discovery of 12 building foundations. 3D scanning not only improves archaeological efficiency, but also allows us to 'touch' history in a digital way, "said the head of the Archaeology Academy.

Cultural Relics Protection: Digitally Protecting Millennium Civilization

Beijing Zhongxian 3D scanner provides a non-contact solution for the protection of fragile cultural relics. In the cultural relic restoration laboratory of Qufu Confucian Temple, the staff successfully obtained the surface texture and structural data of Ming Dynasty sacrificial vessels through 360 degree scanning. These data were used to generate virtual restoration solutions, which improved the accuracy of cultural relic restoration by 60% while avoiding potential damage to cultural relics from traditional surveying.

At present, this technology has covered 23 national key cultural relics protection units in Shandong Province, and has completed the digital archiving of more than 300 precious cultural relics. The data shows that the geometric accuracy error of the digital cultural relic model generated by 3D scanning can be controlled within 0.1 millimeters, providing a reliable basis for the long-term preservation and research of cultural relics.

Industrial Manufacturing: Whole Process Optimization Helps Industrial Upgrading

In the field of industrial design and manufacturing, the Shandong University team has utilized 3D scanning technology to achieve full chain digitization from product design to quality inspection. In the manufacturing of automotive parts, by comparing the scanned actual model with CAD design data, a size deviation of 0.05 millimeters can be quickly detected, and the defect detection rate can be increased to 99.8%. This breakthrough has been applied to multiple domestic car companies, reducing the development cycle of new products by 30%.

In addition, 3D scanning technology has successfully solved the industry challenge of detecting complex surfaces in the machining of aerospace precision components. The relevant achievements have applied for 5 national inventions, providing key technical support for independent innovation in the manufacturing field.

Medical Research and Teaching: Exploring New Perspectives in Medicine

In the field of medicine, 3D scanners also demonstrate advantages. The medical research team at the university uses 3D scanning technology to model human organs, providing more intuitive and accurate models for medical research. By analyzing three-dimensional models of human organs, researchers can gain a deeper understanding of their structure and function, explore the pathogenesis of diseases, and provide theoretical support for developing new treatment methods.

In terms of medical teaching, 3D scanners also provide students with a more vivid and authentic learning experience. Traditional medical teaching mainly relies on books, specimens, and two-dimensional images, making it difficult for students to fully and deeply understand the structure of the human body. 3D scanning technology can present three-dimensional models of human organs to students, allowing them to observe and learn from different perspectives, enhancing their spatial imagination and anatomical knowledge, and improving teaching effectiveness. At present, this technology has been promoted and applied in 12 tertiary hospitals in Shandong Province, assisting in the completion of more than 800 difficult surgeries. In the future, the team plans to combine 3D scanning with AI technology to develop an intelligent disease diagnosis system. The application of 3D scanning technology not only injects new momentum into the scientific research and innovation of Shandong University, but also marks an important breakthrough in China's digital technology field. With the continuous deepening of cooperation between Beijing Zhongxian and Shandong University, this technology that can see details is painting a clearer future picture for cultural inheritance, industrial upgrading, and human health.

expert opinion

3D scanning technology is not only the 'digital base' of industrial manufacturing, but also the 'technological ark' of civilization inheritance. Professor Li Xiaoming from Tsinghua University said, 'With the continuous iteration of technology, we have the ability to leave a more complete cultural gene pool for future generations.'. As an advanced research tool, 3D scanners play an irreplaceable role in multiple research fields in universities. It not only provides more accurate and comprehensive data support for researchers, but also promotes innovation and change in research methods. With the continuous development and improvement of technology, we believe that 3D scanners will play a greater role in future scientific research work, helping Shandong University achieve more breakthroughs and achievements in the academic field.
