A slurry filtration instrument is an experimental device used to measure the filtration loss of drilling fluid (mud) or cement slurry under specific conditions. It simulates the underground environment (such as high temperature and high pressure) to evaluate the amount of filtrate when the fluid passes through the filter material under pressure, thereby measuring its sealing performance and stability.
working principle
Pressure filtration: Inject a certain amount of mud into a closed chamber, apply pressure through a gas source or hydraulic system, force the free water in the mud to pass through filter paper or specific filter material (such as a 40 mesh stainless steel filter), and collect the filtrate in the receiver.
Temperature control simulation: Equipped with a built-in heating device and temperature control system (such as a programmable temperature controller), the mud is heated at a set heating rate to simulate the temperature conditions of the formation.
Data collection: Real time recording of filtrate volume through light sensors, measuring cylinders, or electronic sensors, while measuring mud cake thickness (in millimeters or 1/32 inch), calculating filtration rate.
function
Filtration loss measurement: By simulating the high-temperature and high-pressure environment underground, the volume of filtrate flowing out of the mud within a specified time is measured to evaluate its filtration performance. The filtration loss is an important indicator for evaluating whether the mud can effectively seal the formation and prevent wellbore collapse.
Filter cake quality analysis: Observe the shape of the mud cake left on the filter screen after filtration (such as thickness, density, and toughness) to determine the wall forming ability of the mud. The mud cake should be thin and dense, which can effectively prevent the filtrate from further invading the formation.
Temperature and pressure control: Supports high temperature environments from room temperature to 232 ℃ and high pressure conditions of 4.2-7.1 MPa, simulating deep well conditions to ensure that test results are close to reality.
Application scenarios
Performance evaluation of drilling fluid: Optimize the drilling fluid formula, reduce filtration loss, and minimize the damage of filtrate to the formation (such as clay swelling and pore blockage).
Quality assurance of well cementing: Measure the filtration loss of cement slurry under high temperature and high pressure using a cement slurry filtration instrument, evaluate its sealing performance and hardening stability, and prevent interlayer flow.
Reservoir protection research: Simulate different formation conditions (such as permeability and pressure gradient), test the impact of mud filtration on reservoir permeability, and guide drilling fluid design.
