Atomic absorption spectrophotometer can be used to analyze various types of samples
Date: 2025-08-25Read: 24
Atomic absorption spectrophotometer can detect low concentrations of elements. This is because it is based on the absorption of light of a specified wavelength by atoms, and can effectively capture weak absorption signals by optimizing instrument parameters such as light source intensity, accuracy of the spectroscopic system, sensitivity of the detector, etc. For example, in some environmental monitoring samples, the detection of heavy metal elements such as lead and cadmium can be accurately detected even at concentrations as low as nanograms per liter (ng/L), providing a reliable means for the analysis of trace elements.
Due to the fact that atomic absorption spectroscopy targets the characteristic spectral lines of specific elements, there is relatively less interference. As long as the experimental conditions are strictly controlled, such as selecting appropriate flame types or graphite furnace heating programs, adjusting appropriate spectral passbands, etc., interference from other elements and background interference such as molecular spectra can be effectively avoided. Meanwhile, by using the standard curve method for quantification, that is, drawing an absorbance concentration curve using a series of known concentration standard solutions, and then searching for the corresponding concentration on the curve based on the absorbance of the sample, the accuracy of the measurement results can be ensured. In the quality inspection process of industrial production, the accuracy of atomic absorption spectrophotometer is particularly important for the accurate determination of metal element content in raw materials or products.
Each element has a unique characteristic absorption spectrum, which makes it highly selective in the analysis of complex multi-element samples. For example, in the analysis of alloy materials, even if the alloy contains multiple metal elements, by setting the instrument to only detect the characteristic spectral lines of specified elements, the content of the target element can be accurately determined without interference from other elements. This good selectivity gives it great advantages in simultaneous analysis of multiple elements or analysis of complex matrix samples.
Atomic absorption spectrophotometer can be used to analyze various types of samples, including liquid, solid (through appropriate dissolution or digestion treatment), and gas samples. In the field of environmental science, it can be used to analyze heavy metal elements in samples such as water, soil, and air; In the food industry, trace element content such as calcium, iron, zinc and other nutrients, as well as possible heavy metal pollution, can be detected in food; In geological exploration, it is possible to analyze the composition of metal elements in rocks and minerals; In the field of medicine, it can be used for detecting metal impurities in drugs. Its wide range of applications makes it an indispensable analytical tool in many industries.
