The Influence of Environmental Temperature on the Accuracy of Infrared Human Body Temperature Measurement and Calibration Methods
Date: 2025-11-03Read: 0
The environmental temperature has a significant impact on the accuracy of infrared human body temperature measurement, mainly reflected in the measurement deviation under temperature environment and the stability decrease caused by environmental temperature fluctuations. When the ambient temperature is below 16 ℃ or above 32 ℃, the sensitivity of the infrared thermometer sensor will decrease, causing the measured value to deviate from the true body temperature. For example, in cold outdoor environments, thermometers may underestimate body temperature; In high-temperature enclosed spaces, temperature may be overestimated due to sensor overload. In addition, rapid fluctuations in ambient temperature (such as cold and hot air convection caused by opening and closing doors) can cause short-term reading drift of the thermometer, further reducing measurement reliability.
The correction method for the impact of environmental temperature needs to be combined with hardware adjustments and operating standards. Firstly, environmental temperature control is the foundation, and it should be ensured that the thermometer is used in a stable environment of 16 ℃ -32 ℃, avoiding direct sunlight or proximity to heat sources. If measuring temperature outdoors, temperature fluctuations can be reduced and the buffer time for the subject to enter the temperature measurement area can be extended by building L-shaped isolation belts, installing windshield curtains, and other methods. Secondly, hardware calibration requires the use of professional tools, such as using a standard blackbody source (radiation rate close to 1) as a reference source, aligning the thermometer with the blackbody source and adjusting it to display a temperature consistent with the standard value. For thermometers with software functions, the temperature compensation algorithm can be optimized by upgrading the firmware to improve environmental adaptability.
At the operational level, strict adherence to regulations is required: clean the sensing head of the thermometer before measurement to avoid dust interference; Keep the thermometer perpendicular to the skin and control the measurement distance at 3-5 centimeters (adjust according to the equipment manual); Take the average of multiple measurements to reduce random errors. If the thermometer has not been used for a long time or shows abnormal readings, it is recommended to send it to a professional institution for comprehensive testing and calibration. Through the triple guarantee of environmental control, hardware adjustment, and standardized operation, the accuracy of infrared human body temperature measurement can be significantly improved in complex environments.
