The role of spectral radiometer in simulating solar irradiance and testing weather resistance
Date: 2025-11-07Read: 3
Spectral irradiance meter provides key data support for simulating natural light environment and evaluating material weather resistance performance by accurately measuring spectral distribution and irradiance intensity in sunlight irradiance simulation and weather resistance testing. It is a core tool to ensure the scientific and reliable test results.
In the simulation of solar irradiance, spectral irradiance meters can quantify the energy distribution of light at different wavelengths (such as ultraviolet, visible light, and near-infrared) through high-precision sensors and spectroscopic technology, ensuring that the spectrum of simulated light sources (such as xenon lamps and LED arrays) matches the standard solar spectrum (such as AM1.5G) and avoiding distortion of test results due to spectral deviation. For example, in photovoltaic module testing, it can verify the irradiation uniformity of the simulator in the 300-1200nm band, ensuring the accuracy of battery efficiency evaluation; In plant photobiology research, by regulating the ratio of red to blue light (such as 4:1 or 5:1), the light quality requirements of different growth environments can be simulated.
In weather resistance testing, a spectral radiometer can quantify the synergistic effect of photochemical effects (such as material aging caused by ultraviolet radiation) and thermal effects (such as thermal stress caused by infrared radiation) by continuously monitoring the surface irradiation intensity and spectral changes of materials. For example, in the weather resistance test of automotive exterior, it can record the cumulative radiation of UV-B (280-320nm) and UV-A (320-400nm), combined with temperature cycling data, to predict the time nodes of material fading, cracking and other failure modes; In aerospace material validation, the service life of coatings in the environment can be evaluated by monitoring their thermal stability under vacuum ultraviolet radiation.
In addition, the real-time data output and dynamic calibration function of the spectral radiometer can eliminate interference factors such as light source power drift and environmental temperature fluctuations, ensuring the stability of the testing process. For example, the LED simulator combined with the closed-loop control system of a miniature spectrometer can sample and output spectra at a frequency of 10Hz, automatically compensate for wavelength shifts caused by LED junction temperature changes, and maintain irradiance stability within ± 1%.
