Full analysis of the working principle and application of wireless current sensors
Date: 2025-10-15Read: 4
Wireless current sensors are key equipment in modern monitoring technology, with the core of non-contact measurement of current and wireless transmission of data.
1、 Working principle
Its workflow is divided into two main stages: "perception" and "transmission":
Current sensing: The mainstream technology is based on electromagnetic induction or flux gate principle. The sensor is mounted on the tested wire through an open magnetic core or Roche coil, directly capturing the alternating magnetic field generated by the current around the wire and converting it into a small voltage signal proportional to it. This process itself does not require power supply and is passive.
Signal processing and wireless transmission: The perceived signal is amplified, filtered, and digitized through built-in circuits. The core wireless module (often using protocols such as LoRa, NB IoT, Zigbee, or Wi Fi) packages data and sends it to a remote receiving gateway or cloud platform via radio waves. The energy required for the entire processing and transmission process is usually provided by built-in batteries or energy harvesting technologies (such as obtaining trace amounts of energy from the measured current itself).
2、 Core applications
Its wireless and portable features solve the pain points of traditional measurement and are widely used in:
Smart Grid and Distribution Automation: Real time remote monitoring of current in transmission lines, substations, and distribution cabinets to assist in fault warning and load management.
Industrial Internet of Things and Predictive Maintenance: Online monitoring of the operating current of key equipment such as factory motors and pumps, analyzing the trend of current changes, early warning of mechanical failures, and avoiding unplanned shutdowns.
Building energy consumption management: Conveniently installed on the main circuit of buildings, accurately measuring the electricity consumption of different areas or equipment, providing data support for energy-saving optimization.
New energy system: safely and reliably monitor the output current of power generation arrays and inverters in scenarios such as photovoltaic power plants and wind farms.
Summary: The wireless current sensor, through the combination of non-contact sensing and wireless communication technology, realizes the safety, convenience, remote and intelligence of current monitoring, and is the basic perception unit for building the energy Internet and Industry 4.0.
