Core equipment for light aging testing: Understanding the solar radiation test chamber in a simple and easy way
Date: 2025-12-04Read: 1
The solar radiation test chamber is the core equipment for light aging testing. It simulates the ultraviolet, visible, and infrared radiation in natural sunlight to create a controllable accelerated aging environment, allowing samples to undergo an aging process equivalent to several months to years outdoors in a short period of time, thus quickly evaluating the weather resistance of materials.
The core working principle is based on the mechanism of photochemical aging. In the natural environment, ultraviolet rays in sunlight are the main factor causing material degradation, discoloration, and performance degradation. The test chamber uses xenon lamp or metal halide lamp as the light source, coupled with a filter to accurately simulate the solar spectrum. Combined with temperature (range up to -40 ℃ to+120 ℃) and humidity (20% RH to 98% RH) control systems, it reproduces the comprehensive factors such as high temperature, high humidity, and ultraviolet radiation in outdoor environments. For example, a certain automobile manufacturer simulated the environment of "50 ℃ temperature, 50% humidity, 1.05W/m ² @ 340nm xenon lamp irradiation" through a test chamber, and conducted 800 hours of testing on the bumper to verify its performance indicators of color difference Δ E ≤ 2 and tensile strength reduction ≤ 5%, ensuring that the product maintains good condition after 3 years of outdoor use.
The equipment structure consists of four core systems: a light source system (such as a 6.5kW long arc water-cooled xenon lamp with a lifespan of approximately 2000 hours), an environmental control system (precise temperature control ± 0.5 ℃, humidity control ± 3% RH), a sample rack and turntable (ensuring uniform irradiation), and a control system (supporting custom aging programs such as light, dark, and spray free combinations). Some models are also equipped with irradiance calibration modules to ensure testing accuracy meets international standards such as ISO4892-3 and GJB150.7A.
The application scenarios cover a wide range of fields such as outdoor building materials, automotive exterior, electronic appliances, etc. For example, exterior wall coating companies have conducted a 1000 hour xenon lamp aging test to screen out anti UV additive formulas, which have extended the weather resistance life of the coating from 5 years to over 8 years; The shell of the new energy vehicle charging gun needs to pass a 1200 hour test to verify whether its insulation resistance and impact resistance meet the standards, in order to avoid safety accidents caused by aging. This device has become a key tool for enterprises to optimize production processes and enhance product competitiveness.
