How to use a quantum efficiency tester?
Date: 2025-10-13Read: 3

The usage method of quantum efficiency tester is usually as follows:

1. Preparation work
Familiar with the equipment: Read the user manual of the quantum efficiency tester to understand all the functions, operating steps, and safety precautions of the instrument.
System check: Ensure that the hardware components such as the light source, monochromator, and detector of the testing system are working properly and preheated to a stable state.
Environmental control: Testing should be conducted in a dark room to reduce interference from ambient light, while maintaining stable ambient temperature and humidity to avoid affecting the test results.
2. Sample preparation
Cleaning treatment: Ensure that the surface of the tested sample is free of dust, oil stains, or other impurities. If necessary, gently wipe it with a suitable solvent and let it dry.
Fixed installation: Place the sample firmly on the dedicated fixture or platform of the tester, ensuring that the illuminated area covers the target area and avoids obstruction. For testing photovoltaic devices, external circuit connections are also required for measuring current signals.
3. Parameter settings
Wavelength selection: Set the wavelength range of the monochromator or light source according to the testing requirements to simulate the response characteristics under different spectral conditions.
Light intensity adjustment: Adjust the incident light intensity to an appropriate level, ensuring signal detectability without causing saturation effects.
Integral time setting: Set a reasonable acquisition time based on sample characteristics and expected signal strength, balancing sensitivity and noise suppression.
Other parameters: Set the scanning range, step size, and other parameters correctly according to the testing requirements.
4. System calibration
Baseline calibration: Conduct blank measurements without placing samples, establish a baseline for background noise, and deduct this baseline from subsequent data to improve accuracy.
Detector calibration: Regularly calibrate the detector to ensure the accuracy of its response curve and avoid sensitivity attenuation caused by long-term use.
5. Conduct testing
Place the sample: Place the prepared sample on the sample stage, ensuring it aligns with the optical path of the tester, use a light shield to reduce the influence of stray light, and ensure good electrical connection between the sample and the tester.
Start test: Input test parameters through the computer interface, start the light source and irradiate it with light. The detector begins to receive signals from the sample response, and the system will automatically record the current/voltage output values at each wavelength.
6. Data processing and analysis
Data recording: During the testing process, carefully record all relevant data and testing conditions.
Calculation analysis: After the test is completed, the quantum efficiency curve is calculated using supporting software, including key indicators such as external quantum efficiency and internal quantum efficiency. The peak position, bandwidth characteristics, and efficiency attenuation mechanism are analyzed in conjunction with the material band structure theory.
Verification and comparison: Retest and confirm abnormal data points, and compare them horizontally with standard samples or historical data to identify the source of experimental errors.
