The analysis of total organic carbon (TOC) in saltwater samples (i.e. samples with chloride content ranging from 3.5% to 30% by weight) faces special difficulties due to the high total dissolved solids content in saltwater and the characteristic of chloride depletion of oxidants. In traditional wet chemical analysis systems, the TOC recovery rate of saltwater samples is low due to the destructive interference caused by chlorides. In contrast, although the combustion system has a higher TOC recovery rate for saltwater samples, it has high maintenance frequency and cost, signal drift, and requires frequent recalibration. The Sievers InnovOx laboratory TOC analyzer adopts Supercritical Water Oxidation (SCWO) technology, which can eliminate the interference of chlorides and reduce expensive and time-consuming instrument maintenance while providing the best analytical performance. It overcomes all the above disadvantages, making it an ideal tool for TOC analysis of saltwater samples.
