The research on the odor of orange blossom essential oil has scientific value and practical significance, and its necessity runs through multiple key dimensions such as academic exploration, industrial application, and quality assurance. From the perspective of aroma essence analysis, the aroma of Citrus reticulata essential oil is a direct reflection of its volatile components. This study takes Citrus reticulata as the research material and uses an electronic nose to clarify the characteristic aroma components and quality safety of Citrus reticulata essential oil, providing a theoretical basis for its industrial application.

AIRSENSE electronic nose is a precision instrument that integrates technology, with its core being the simulation of the operating mechanism of the biological olfactory system. The instrument is equipped with a high-sensitivity array composed of multiple metal oxide (MOS) sensors inside. Accurate response to different odor substances such as aromatic components, nitrogen oxides, alkanes, alcohols, ethers, aldehydes, and ketones can be achieved within 300 seconds without the need for complex pretreatment. With simple sample preparation and equilibration, detection can be completed within 300 seconds. Through the analysis of steady-state spectral data, key odor related substances can be quickly identified, providing intuitive and reliable raw data for odor research.

Details of the experimental plan

Take 1mL of orange red essential oil sample and place it in a 50mL headspace bottle. After equilibration for 30 minutes, perform detection

The intelligent electronic nose produced by ARISENSE in Germany includes a metal oxide sensor array (with 10 built-in and expandable), sampling and cleaning channels, odor information collection system, calibration function, and built-in pump system, supporting automatic sampling.

Instrument setting parameters
The experimental cleaning time is 100 seconds, the measurement time is 300 seconds, the chamber flow rate is 300 mL/min, the injection flow rate is 300 mL/min, and a stable spectrum at 150 seconds is selected for data analysis.

The volatile flavor components of Citrus essential oil mainly show significant responses on the W1W, W5S, and W2W sensors. Based on the performance description of the sensor, it is speculated that the aroma related components in Citrus reticulata essential oil mainly include inorganic sulfides, nitrogen oxides, aromatic compounds, organic sulfide compounds, etc.

research findings
This study fully demonstrates the feasibility of AIRSENSE electronic nose technology in the study of orange essential oil odor, which can quickly identify key odor related substances and provide intuitive and reliable raw data for odor research.
At present, AIRSENSE electronic nose has reached the level of being able to be combined with GC-MS, greatly improving research efficiency and helping to bridge the academic gap in the association between odor and composition.
