Energy Spectrum Technology Sharing: Application of Infrared Spectroscopy in Oil Analysis of Polypropylene Materials

Polypropylene (PP) is a semi crystalline thermoplastic. Has high impact resistance, strong mechanical properties, and resistance to various organic solvents and acid-base corrosion. It has a wide range of applications in the industrial sector and is one of the common polymer materials. The common use is mainly for the production of various long and short polypropylene fibers, used for the production of polypropylene woven bags, packaging bags, injection molded products, and other flame-retardant components for the production of electrical appliances, telecommunications, lighting fixtures, lighting equipment, and televisions.

Recently, a customer inquired about using our iCAN9 Fourier transform infrared spectrometer from Energy Spectrum Technology to test whether the sample (PP Felt) they provided contains silicone oil. The European Pharmacopoeia has also issued corresponding national standards in China for the control of infrared spectroscopy for polymer materials, including the General Principles for Infrared Spectroscopy Analysis (GBT 6040-2002) and Microbeam Analysis Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy Quantitative Analysis (GB/T 17359-2012). We strictly follow this national standard to determine the substance content of the sample polypropylene felt by infrared spectroscopy.
