Process principle of brittleness tester equipment
Date: 2025-09-09Read: 1
The brittleness tester equipment is mainly used to detect the brittleness of materials (such as plastics, metals, ceramics, etc.) and evaluate whether they are easily broken under external forces. The process principle of equipment is usually based on the following basic principles:
1. Impact testing method (principle of impact testing machine)
This principle is the most common method for testing brittleness. The device measures the brittleness of materials by simulating the external impact they are subjected to in actual usage environments. The basic steps are as follows:
Sample preparation: Prepare the sample to be tested into a standard shape of a certain specification (such as small pieces, cylindrical shapes, etc.).
Accelerated impact: The instrument impacts the sample at a certain speed by releasing an impact object or hammer of known mass.
Fragility assessment: Determine the brittleness of the sample based on its fragmentation after impact. Materials with stronger brittleness usually break into smaller fragments under stress, while materials with good ductility are less prone to breakage.
2. Drop test method (drop test principle)
Evaluate the brittleness of the sample by simulating the possible drop situations it may encounter during actual use. The operating principle is as follows:
Sample preparation: Place the sample to be tested at a specific height.
Free fall: The process of dropping a sample from a certain height onto a hard surface through free fall or controlled descent.
Fragmentation degree: Test whether the sample is broken or fragmented, and measure the degree of fragmentation (such as the number of fragments, smoothness of the fragmentation surface, etc.).
In this test, materials with high brittleness usually produce more small fragments after falling.
3. Stress loading method (tensile or compression test)
By applying a certain amount of tensile or compressive force, the cracking or crushing of materials during the stress process can be detected, and their brittleness can be evaluated.
Tensile test: Place the sample in a tensile fixture and observe the fracture mode and point of the sample by gradually increasing the tensile force. Brittle materials typically fracture rapidly upon fracture, while ductile materials may undergo plastic deformation.
Compression test: Apply gradually increasing compressive force to the sample to measure its deformation and fracture behavior. Brittle materials may suddenly fracture at a certain point when subjected to compression without exhibiting significant deformation.
4. Acoustic detection principle
Brittle substances often produce specific sound waves when they break or break. By installing a high-sensitivity microphone to record the sound waves generated when brittle materials break, analyzing their frequency and intensity, the brittleness of the sample can be determined.
Sound analysis: Brittle materials typically produce sharp, brief sounds when they break, while materials with better ductility may produce lower pitched sounds.
Data processing: By comparing the sound spectra produced by different materials, the brittleness of the materials can be effectively distinguished.
5. Data processing and analysis
The fragility tester is usually equipped with advanced data acquisition and analysis systems, which can automatically record the stress situation, crack generation, and degree of fragmentation. Test data is usually analyzed through the following indicators:
Fragmentation area/quantity: Record the area of fragmentation or the number of fragments to quantify brittleness.
Fracture strength: Record the maximum force or energy that a sample can withstand when it fractures, and evaluate its impact resistance.
Crack propagation speed: For some special materials, it is also possible to analyze the speed and propagation mode of crack propagation to further understand the brittleness of the material.
summary
The brittleness tester simulates the effect of external forces on materials, measures the cracking and fragmentation of materials during impact, drop, or stress loading, and evaluates their brittleness. Common testing methods include impact testing, drop testing, stress loading method, and acoustic testing. These tests can accurately evaluate the brittleness and reliability of materials, ensuring their safety and performance in practical applications.
