Limitations and precautions of ductless fume hood
Date: 2025-10-17Read: 1
Ductless fume hood(also known as ductless clean air fume hood or carbon filtration fume hood) is a laboratory ventilation equipment that integrates safety, flexibility, and environmental protection. It achieves on-site purification of experimental waste gas through a built-in high-efficiency filtration system, without the need for complex external pipelines, providing an economical and convenient ventilation solution for laboratories.
Ductless fume hoodAdopting negative pressure design, a stable airflow barrier is formed inside the cabinet through the top fan, ensuring that harmful gases, vapors, and particles generated during the experiment are continuously sucked into the filtration system. The filtering module adopts modular design, which can flexibly combine different types of filters according to experimental needs:
Activated carbon filter: efficiently adsorbs chemical pollutants such as organic solvents and acidic gases.
HEPA filter: intercepts particles larger than 0.3 microns with a filtration efficiency of 99.97%.
The filtered clean air is directly discharged into the room, forming an internal circulation of air flow, which not only protects operators from pollutant interference, but also eliminates the discomfort caused by the micro negative pressure environment brought by traditional full exhaust fume hoods.
Limitations and precautions:
Cannot adsorb and filter all chemicals: For high-risk, highly corrosive, or toxic chemical gases and aerosols, ductless fume hoods may not be able to meet purification needs.
Only suitable for small and medium dose chemical experiments: For scenarios such as large-scale organic synthesis or acid experiments that generate large amounts of harmful gases, ductless fume hoods may not be sufficient.
Filters need to be replaced regularly: To ensure filtration efficiency, filters need to be replaced regularly according to experimental frequency and pollutant type, which increases maintenance costs.
Experiments that require cleanliness of samples, such as electrophoresis experiments and cell proliferation experiments, are not applicable. High cleanliness requirements for samples may not be met by ductless fume hoods.
