Guidelines for Selection and Use of Toxic Substance Storage Cabinets
Date: 2025-09-11Read: 1
Toxic substance storage cabinetSelection and usage guide:
Key parameters for selection
Material: Cold rolled steel plates (thickness ≥ 1.5mm) or 304 stainless steel are preferred for stronger corrosion resistance.
Capacity: Select specifications based on storage requirements (common capacity: 15L-455L), and large cabinets need to reserve ventilation space.
Function: Select additional functions based on the characteristics of the drug, such as constant temperature and humidity, explosion-proof lighting, VOCs sensors, etc.
Installation and maintenance
Location requirements: Keep away from fire and heat sources (≥ 3 meters), maintain a distance of ≥ 1.5 meters from emergency exits, and have no debris within 1 meter of the surrounding area.
  Toxic substance storage cabinetRegular inspection:
Check the sealing, locking function, and ventilation opening of the cabinet every month.
Quarterly testing of alarm systems, electrostatic grounding devices, and gas concentration detectors.
Every year, professional institutions test the fire resistance and corrosion resistance.
Emergency response:
Immediately activate the exhaust system in case of leakage, wear a gas mask and protective clothing to handle the leaked material.
Use dry powder fire extinguishers or carbon dioxide fire extinguishers during a fire, and do not use water to extinguish the fire.
personnel training
Operating standards: Train personnel to master the access process and emergency response methods, and prohibit unauthorized personnel from accessing the cabinet.
Record management: Establish a chemical inventory list, MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet), and access ledger to ensure traceability.
Classification and Identification
Classified by hazard:
Grey white cabinet: stores toxic substances.
Yellow cabinet: flammable liquids (such as ethanol, acetone).
Red cabinet: flammable liquid (such as petroleum ether).
Blue cabinet: Corrosive liquids (such as sulfuric acid, sodium hydroxide).
Grey cabinet: Compressed gas cylinders (such as oxygen and acetylene).
Prohibited mixing: Strong acids and bases, oxidants and reducing agents should be stored separately to avoid chemical reactions.
compliance requirements
Double lock system: Highly toxic chemicals must be unlocked by two people simultaneously, and the unlocking time and personnel information must be recorded.
Static protection: The grounding resistance of the cabinet is ≤ 4 Ω, the cross resistance between the layer board and the cabinet is ≤ 0.03 Ω, and an anti-static pad is laid on the operating table.
Warning signs: GHS classification labels (such as skull and flame symbols) are posted on the cabinet door, and warning signs such as "no smoking" and "must be ventilated" are set on the outside.
