How to choose a suitable wire bending testing machine?
Date: 2025-07-28Read: 0

The key to choosing a suitable wire bending tester is to match the testing requirements (such as wire type, standard requirements) with the equipment performance (such as bending angle, speed, load capacity), while also considering equipment stability and scalability. If blindly selected, it may lead to distortion of test data or inability to meet industry standards, so it is necessary to comprehensively consider three aspects: core parameters, standard adaptation, and functional details.

First, clarify the test object: the "characteristics" of the wire determine the basic requirements of the equipment
Wire specifications are the foundation: Select the appropriate range of the fixture based on the diameter of the wire (such as 0.5mm-10mm) to ensure that the fixture can firmly clamp the wire without damaging the insulation layer (for example, soft pad fixtures are needed for thin wires to avoid deformation caused by excessive clamping force). At the same time, it is necessary to confirm the length of the wires that the equipment can test (usually it is recommended to test the length of the section between 100mm and 500mm, as too short may affect the uniformity of bending force).
Application scenario determination of "strength": If testing frequently bent wires (such as household power cords, robot internal cables), attention should be paid to the upper limit of the bending times of the equipment (general equipment can reach 100000 to 1 million times, and high demand scenarios require models with more than 1 million times to be selected); If the wire needs to be tested with a load (such as bending when powered on), the equipment must have load output function (such as being able to connect to DC/AC power supply and simulate actual working current).
Standard adaptability: Select equipment that can be "benchmarked"
Different industries have different standards for wire bending testing, and the equipment must meet the corresponding regulatory requirements, otherwise the test results will not be authoritative. The common standards and equipment requirements are as follows:
IEC60227/60245 (household and similar cables): The bending angle is required to be 180 °, and a static load with weights should be used. The equipment should be equipped with an angle positioning device and a weight suspension mechanism.
UL817 (power cord): The test angle is 90 °, and it is necessary to simulate the plug insertion and extraction state. The equipment fixture should be compatible with the plug fixation and have conductivity monitoring function (if disconnected, it will stop the machine).
ISO19642 (Automotive Wires): Dynamic bending is required (in conjunction with vibration or temperature environments), and some equipment can be used in conjunction with high and low temperature boxes. It is necessary to confirm whether the equipment interface supports environmental box integration.
If the test involves multiple standards, it is recommended to choose a "multifunctional model" that can flexibly adjust the angle, load, and speed to avoid duplicate purchases.
Additional features: Improve efficiency and security
Automation level: Automatic feeding and multi station testing (simultaneously testing 3-5 wires) can greatly improve efficiency and are suitable for batch testing scenarios;
Data recording: Equipped with a touch screen and data storage function (such as recording bending times and fracture positions), it is convenient to trace the testing process. Some high-end models can be connected to a computer to export reports;
Safety protection: The equipment should be equipped with a protective cover (to prevent debris from splashing when the wire breaks) and overload protection (automatic shutdown of the motor due to overload), especially during high-frequency testing, where safety is crucial.
Avoid pitfalls when choosing: Don't overlook these details
Avoid "price only": low-priced equipment may cut corners on key components such as servo motors and counting sensors, resulting in poor testing accuracy and short lifespan. It is recommended to choose brands with industry cases (such as cooperation with quality inspection agencies and large wire factories);
Confirm after-sales service: The equipment needs to be regularly calibrated (such as angles and force values), and a manufacturer that provides on-site calibration and timely supply of vulnerable parts (such as fixtures and belts) should be selected;
Reserve expansion space: If it is possible to test thicker wires (such as industrial cables) in the future, it is necessary to confirm whether the equipment can replace fixtures or upgrade load modules to avoid secondary investment.
Summary: Matching on demand, balancing "precision" and "practicality"
The core logic for selecting a wire bending testing machine is: testing object characteristics → corresponding standard requirements → equipment parameter matching → additional function adaptation. Prioritize ensuring that the equipment meets the core requirements of angle, load, and counting in the testing standards, and then select the model based on the testing volume (single station/multi station) and automation requirements (manual/automatic). At the same time, paying attention to the stability of equipment and after-sales service is necessary to ensure long-term reliable use and provide effective data support for wire quality testing.
