How to use a dust particle counter to calculate flow error
Date: 2018-01-23Read: 1
Dust particle counterIt is an instrument that uses the principle of light scattering to count dust particles. Light scattering is related to factors such as particle size, wavelength of light waves, refractive index of particles, and absorption characteristics of particles towards light. However, in terms of scattered light intensity and particle size, there is a basic rule that the intensity of scattered light from particles increases with the increase of their surface area. In this way, a certain flow rate of dusty gas emits scattered light through a beam of strong light, which is then projected onto a photomultiplier tube through a condenser lens. The light pulse is converted into an electrical pulse, and the number of particles is calculated from the number of pulses. Calculate the particle diameter based on the functional relationship between the intensity of scattered light and the particle size. In this way, by measuring the intensity of scattered light, the size of particles can be inferred, which is the basic principle of a light scattering dust particle counter.
But if it is TSI's instrument, usually the correction has already been completed within the software. However, the error between flow rate and particle concentration can be positive or negative, and there is basically no solution. Actual use does not require additional calibration, just use this data directly and add a percentage error. The flow error needs to be determined by what flow error it is, because the particle concentration is #/cm3. If your flow rate is incorrect, the particle concentration will also be inaccurate. It is necessary to check whether the particle concentration error caused by flow rate includes this 5% particle concentration error. If not, you need to recalculate based on the internal flow rate of your instrument to see how much impact this 5% has on particle concentration.
This depends on how your sample flow and sheet flow are designed in the instrument. Among them, the detection methods for the final particles also need to be somewhat precise, including optical detection methods (TSI CPC aggregated dust particle counter) and charge detection methods (TSI EIS ionization spectrometer)... These methods all have their own error values, which are either explicitly stated in the instrument manual or automatically calibrated in the software included with the instrument.
