How to choose a dust filter that suits oneself?
Date: 2025-06-24Read: 2

Choosing a suitable dust filter requires comprehensive consideration of factors such as dust characteristics, usage scenarios, filtration efficiency, and equipment costs. The following are systematic selection steps and key points:

1、 Clarify dust characteristics: core screening criteria
1. Dust particle size distribution
Particle size range: Analyze dust particle size through laser particle size analyzer or microscope, for example:
Ultra fine dust (<1 μ m): high-efficiency filtering materials (such as PTFE coated filter bags, HEPA filters) should be selected;
Coarse dust (>10 μ m): Medium efficiency filter materials (such as polyester fiber filter bags) can be used for lower cost.
Example: Cement production dust is mostly 10-50 μ m, and water and oil repellent polyester filter bags can be selected; Lithium battery positive electrode materials (such as NCM) contain a large amount of<5 μ m particles in dust, which need to be matched with PTFE coated filter bags.
2. Physical and chemical properties of dust
Moisture absorption: Dust with strong moisture absorption properties (such as flour and gypsum powder) is prone to clumping and clogging of filter materials. Therefore, waterproof and oil resistant filter bags (such as PPS+PTFE coating) should be selected and equipped with pulse dust cleaning devices;
Conductivity: Conductive dust (such as carbon powder and metal powder) should use anti-static filter materials (such as conductive fibers mixed in the filter bag) to avoid explosions caused by static sparks;
Corrosivity: Acid dust (such as SO ₂ dust in chemical exhaust) should be treated with acid and alkali resistant materials (such as P84 polyimide filter bags); Acrylic filter bags are optional for alkaline dust.
3. Dust concentration and emissions
High concentration scenarios (such as mining crushing processes, dust concentration>1000mg/m ³): Priority should be given to bag filters with high processing air volume, paired with high-precision filter bags;
Low concentration emission requirements (such as clean workshops in electronic factories, with emission standards<10mg/m ³): a combination of multi-stage filtration (primary efficiency+medium efficiency+high-efficiency filter) is required, with HEPA or ULPA filter cartridges used at the end.
2、 Determine usage scenario: working conditions determine equipment type
1. Industrial production scenarios
High temperature environment (>200 ℃): For dust removal of flue gas from coal-fired boilers and kilns, high-temperature resistant filter materials (such as aramid Nomex filter bags) or cooling devices (such as cold air valves) should be selected;
Flammable and explosive scenarios: In aluminum powder and magnesium powder processing workshops, explosion-proof filters (such as anti-static filter bags and explosion-proof valves) should be selected, and the use of electrostatic adsorption filter materials should be avoided;
Wet operation: in the scene with high moisture content such as ceramic spray drying tower, waterproof filter bag or wet dust remover (such as Venturi scrubber) can be selected to avoid dust sticking bags.
2. Indoor air purification
Home/Office: For PM2.5, pollen, etc., choose an air purifier with HEPA filter. The CADR value (clean air volume) is calculated based on the room area (CADR=room area x 0.15);
Laboratory/medical facility: It is required to achieve ISO5 cleanliness level (particle size ≥ 0.5 μ m, particle concentration ≤ 3520 particles/m ³), use high-efficiency filters (HEPAH13 level), and conduct regular leak detection.
3. Mobile devices/personal protection
Car air filter: Choose a PM2.5 filter that is suitable for the vehicle model, with priority given to using an activated carbon layer to absorb odors;
Dust mask: Choose the level according to the toxicity of the dust. For non oily dust, choose KN95 (filtration efficiency ≥ 95%), and for oily dust, choose P series filter cotton (such as P100).
Through the above steps, suitable dust filters can be systematically screened, which can not only meet environmental and production needs, but also optimize equipment investment and operating costs. If special working conditions are involved (such as radioactive dust, toxic dust), additional consultation with professional environmental equipment manufacturers is required to develop customized solutions.
