What materials can RoHS2.0 be used for and what are the hazards to the human body

The scope of control for the ten hazardous substances in the RoHS 2.0 standard refers to the regulations established by the European Union to restrict the use of certain hazardous substances in electronic and electrical products and their components. It specifies the maximum content of the following ten restricted materials, with the first six applicable to the original RoHS 1.0, and RoHS 2.0 being the four newly added hazardous substances. RoHS2.0, It is an upgraded version of the old RoHS, which came into effect on July 21, 2011.

1. 镉 (Cd):<100 ppm(0.01%)

Cadmium is used in electronic devices, automotive batteries, metal coatings and pigments, is a known human carcinogen, and affects multiple organ systems.

2. Lead (Pb):<1000 ppm (0.1%)

Lead is used in solder, lead-acid batteries, electronic components, cable sheaths, X-ray shielding, and cathode ray tube glass. Known human carcinogens that affect the nervous and renal systems.

Note: When used as an alloying element in steel, aluminum, and copper, RoHS 0.1% lead content can be exempted; In specific solder materials; By 2024, in specific glass and ceramic applications. For more information, please refer to RoHS Appendix III Lead Exemption.

3. Mercury (Hg):<1000 ppm (0.1%)

Mercury is used in batteries, switches, thermostats, and fluorescent lamps. It is known to be a human carcinogen and affects multiple organ systems.

4. Hexavalent chromium (Cr VI)<1000 ppm (0.1%)

Chromium VI is used for chrome plating, dyes, and pigments. Although some forms of chromium are non-toxic, hexavalent chromium can have toxic effects in various organ systems.

5. Polybrominated biphenyls (PBB):<1000 ppm (0.1%)

PBB, also known as its analogues, is a flame retardant found in plastic casings of computer monitors and televisions, which evaporates into indoor dust and air. Known human carcinogens can affect the endocrine system.

6. Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE):<1000 ppm (0.1%)

Similar to PBB - added to a plastic casing to make it difficult to burn, known human carcinogens can affect the endocrine system.

7. Di (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP):<1000 ppm (0.1%) (newly added in RoHS2.0)

DEHP is used to soften PVC and vinyl insulation materials in wires and medical tubing, known as a human carcinogen that affects the immune and reproductive systems.

8. Benzyl phthalate (BBP):<1000 ppm (0.1%) (newly added in RoHS2.0)

These are used to soften PVC and vinyl insulation materials on wires.

9. Dibutyl phthalate (DBP):<1000 ppm (0.1%) (newly added in RoHS2.0)

DBPs are a part of the phthalate series used to soften PVC and vinyl insulation materials on wires.

10. Diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP):<1000 ppm (0.1%) (newly added in RoHS2.0)
