In the field of RF and microwave testing, Shide Technology has always been at the forefront of technology. As a representative of measurement platforms, its PNA-X series vector network analyzer is widely used in key industries such as 5G communication, aerospace, semiconductor research and development, and defense electronics. Among them, N5245B, as one of the core models in this series, has become a tool for engineers to characterize high-frequency devices due to its performance indicators, powerful multifunctional integration capabilities, and excellent stability.
1、 The basic specifications and architecture of the N5245B network analyzer from Germany
KeDe Technology N5245B is a 4-port microwave vector network analyzer with a working frequency range covering 10 MHz to 50 GHz, suitable for high-precision S-parameter measurement in the millimeter wave frequency band. It is designed based on the PNA-X platform, using advanced microwave front-end architecture and digital signal processing technology, with a dynamic range of up to 140 dB and extremely low trace noise, ensuring stable and reliable test data can still be obtained in complex electromagnetic environments.
The instrument is equipped with two independent programmable excitation sources (Source 1 and Source 2), which support synchronous scanning or multi frequency excitation, providing a hardware foundation for nonlinear device testing. At the same time, four receiver ports combined with a full duplex architecture can achieve simultaneous acquisition of forward and reverse transmission/reflection parameters, significantly improving testing efficiency.
2、 Core technological advantages
1. High precision S-parameter measurement capability
N5245B adopts advanced error calibration algorithms and supports multiple calibration methods such as SOLT, TRL/LRM, ECal (electronic calibration), effectively eliminating systematic errors (such as directionality, crosstalk, matching mismatch, etc.). Its typical directionality is better than 40 dB (after calibration), combined with broadband synthesis source technology, ensuring measurement consistency across the entire frequency range from low frequency to 50 GHz.
2. Integrated nonlinear testing function
This is one of the biggest highlights of the PNA-X series. N5245B can complete nonlinear parameter measurements such as compression point (P1dB), third-order intermodulation (IMD3), AM to PM conversion, and small/large signal gain without the need for an external signal source. By driving the tested device into the nonlinear working region through an internal second signal source, and directly capturing harmonics or intermodulation products using a built-in receiver, a "one click" linear and nonlinear joint analysis is achieved, greatly simplifying the testing process.
3. Testing support for pulse RF and frequency conversion devices
Combined with options such as Option 080 pulse generation and measurement function, N5245B can perform intra pulse response analysis on radar T/R modules, pulse amplifiers, and other devices, supporting gate control reception, pulse profile measurement, and other functions. In addition, the built-in frequency conversion test engine enables it to accurately measure the conversion losses of mixers, up and down conversion modules, local oscillator propulsion power response, and group delay characteristics.
4. Multi port and differential measurement scalability
Standard configuration includes 4 test ports, which can be expanded to 12 or more ports through external switch matrices or multi port testing devices (such as N5217A) to meet the testing needs of complex systems such as multi port filters and antenna arrays. Simultaneously supporting the measurement of Mixed Mode S-Parameters, used to evaluate the common mode rejection ratio and insertion loss balance of differential balun and high-speed interconnect channels.
The N5245B network analyzer is not only a high-performance platform for traditional S-parameter measurement, but also a comprehensive solution that integrates linear, nonlinear, pulse, and frequency conversion testing. Its high-frequency coverage capability of 50 GHz, excellent dynamic range, and flexible expansion options make it valuable in scientific research and industrial applications. For R&D teams pursuing measurement accuracy and testing efficiency, N5245B is undoubtedly the technological cornerstone leading to the millimeter wave era.
