Don't just look at the reading! How does a gas detector "capture" gas concentration?
Date: 2025-11-22Read: 2

As an indispensable equipment in modern industry and environmental monitoring, gas detectors achieve concentration detection of various gases through precise technical means, providing important guarantees for safety production and environmental protection. Gas detectors can convert intangible gases into measurable signals, helping people to timely understand changes in gas composition in the environment. Do you know how a gas detector detects gas concentration? Let's follow the editor of Yiyuntian to learn more.

Modern gas detectors use various technological means to achieve accurate measurement of gas concentration, mainly including electrochemical sensors and optical sensors.

Electrochemical sensors generate current signals through chemical reactions between gases and electrodes, and the magnitude of the current is proportional to the gas concentration, thereby achieving quantitative analysis of gas concentration. This technology has the advantages of high sensitivity and good selectivity, and is widely used in the detection of toxic and harmful gases.

Optical sensors utilize the absorption characteristics of gas molecules towards specific wavelengths of light for detection. When light of a specific wavelength passes through a sample containing a target gas, some of the light energy is absorbed by gas molecules, and the gas concentration can be calculated by measuring the change in light intensity. In recent years, the research team has made significant breakthroughs in the field of coal mine safety gas monitoring technology, developing in-situ detection technology for complex environmental harmful indicator gas concentration based on mixed laser absorption spectroscopy demodulation method, further improving the accuracy and applicability of optical detection.

In addition, the detection of gas molecules at the ppq level (one trillionth of a billionth) based on photo thermal elastic spectroscopy sensing technology has been achieved, which has pushed the sensitivity of gas detection to new heights.

In summary, we can see that with the deep integration of technologies such as artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things with gas detection, gas detectors will have stronger data processing capabilities, lower power consumption, and a wider range of applications, providing stronger technical support for the safety and sustainable development of human society.
