Master the usage method of air radioactive monitoring instrument
Date: 2025-07-08Read: 0

An air radiation monitor is a device that monitors air quality in real-time by detecting the radiation released by radioactive substances in the air. The core function of this instrument is to detect gamma rays, beta rays, or alpha rays released by radioactive isotopes in the air.

The correct usage method directly affects the accuracy and reliability of measurement results. The following will provide a detailed explanation on how to use an air radioactive monitoring device for effective monitoring.
1. Installation and setup
Choose a suitable location: Before use, it is necessary to select a suitable location for installing the instrument. When choosing a location, air circulation should be considered to avoid placing the instrument in areas with weak airflow.
Install detector: Install the detector correctly according to the equipment manual. For aerosol monitoring devices, detectors usually need to be installed near the inlet or outlet of the air conditioning and ventilation system to obtain air samples. For radon gas monitoring devices, the detector needs to be placed in a relatively enclosed and stable place in the room.
Connect power supply: Connect the power cord and ensure that the battery is fully charged. If it is for plug in use, check if the socket connection is secure.
2. Turn on the instrument and calibrate it
Turn on the device: Long press the switch button to turn on the monitor. After the instrument is started, the display screen will show the device self-test information. If the display screen does not display normally, check if the power connection or detector is functioning properly.
Calibration of instruments: Calibration is a crucial step in ensuring the accuracy of monitoring data. Before use, calibration should be performed according to the equipment manual. In general, zero calibration and range calibration are required. Zero calibration can ensure that the instrument outputs the correct zero value in a radiation free environment, and the range calibration criterion is to adjust according to the standard radiation source to ensure measurement accuracy.
3. Choose the appropriate monitoring mode
Most air radiation monitoring devices have multiple monitoring modes, and users can choose the corresponding mode according to their actual needs. Common patterns include:
Real time monitoring mode: The instrument displays the concentration of radioactive substances in the air in real time, suitable for environments that require continuous monitoring.
Cumulative monitoring mode: The instrument records the total concentration of radioactive substances over a period of time, suitable for monitoring pollution sources or long-term environmental radiation conditions.
Timed monitoring mode: Sampling and recording data at regular intervals set by the user, suitable for long-term environmental monitoring.
4. View data and analyze
Viewing real-time data: During the monitoring process, the concentration of radioactive substances in the air can be viewed in real time through the instrument display screen. Usually, instruments display the concentration of different types of radioactive substances, such as radon concentration, total gamma radiation intensity, etc.
Data analysis: After data collection is completed, further data processing can be performed through the instrument's built-in analysis software or by connecting to a computer. Usually, instruments provide graphical results to help users determine the trends and fluctuations of radioactive substances in the air.
5. Alarm and emergency response
Set alarm threshold: According to the safety standards for radioactive substances in the air, users should set appropriate alarm thresholds. When the radioactive concentration exceeds the preset value, the instrument will automatically sound an alarm. Different types of devices have different alarm methods, commonly including audible alarms and visual alarms (such as flashing red lights).
Emergency response: When the alarm system is activated, corresponding emergency measures should be taken according to the situation. For radon monitoring devices, an alarm may indicate that the indoor radon concentration is too high, and measures such as ventilation and sealing need to be taken to reduce the concentration; For aerosol monitoring devices, an alarm may indicate abnormal concentration of radioactive dust in the air. In this case, the source of contamination should be immediately identified and appropriate protective measures should be taken.
6. Regular maintenance and overhaul
Regular inspection: Regularly check the working status of components such as the battery, detector, and display unit of the instrument. Ensure that the equipment is in ideal working condition.
Cleaning equipment: Regularly clean the surface of detectors and instruments to avoid dust and stains affecting measurement accuracy.
Replacement of consumables: Some instruments are equipped with consumables such as filters, sensors, etc., which need to be replaced on time to ensure the normal operation of the instrument.
Notes:
1. Avoid interference sources: During the measurement process, strong electromagnetic interference, direct sunlight, and other factors should be avoided to affect the accuracy of the instrument.
2. Use environment: Avoid using in harsh environments (such as high temperature and high humidity) unless the instrument explicitly supports these environmental conditions.
3. Safety protection: When operating instruments, especially when monitoring radioactive substances such as radon gas, personal protection should be taken into account to avoid direct contact with high concentrations of radioactive substances.
Air radiation monitoring devices play a crucial role in environmental safety monitoring. Accurately measuring the concentration of radioactive substances in the air helps to detect potential radiation hazards in a timely manner, ensuring people's health and safety. By using the correct method, the effectiveness of the instrument and the reliability of the measurement results can be ensured.
