Metal melting furnace operates based on electromagnetic induction phenomenon
Date: 2025-10-28Read: 18
Many modern metal melting furnaces, such as high-frequency and medium frequency melting furnaces, operate based on electromagnetic induction phenomena. When an alternating current passes through a specially designed induction coil, an alternating magnetic field is generated around it. If the metal charge is placed in this magnetic field, eddy currents will be induced inside the metal as a conductor. Due to the inherent resistance of metals, the Joule effect generates a large amount of heat when eddy currents pass through, causing the temperature of the metal to rapidly rise until melting. For example, in a small high-frequency melting furnace, the magnetic flux surrounded by a conductor loop changes, generating an induced potential in the loop and forming an induced current (eddy current) to overcome the resistance of the conductor itself and generate Joule heat to heat the conductor, achieving the purpose of heating and melting.
Vacuum environment heating: A simple vacuum melting furnace first starts the vacuum system, extracts the air inside the furnace to reduce the pressure to the appropriate vacuum range, reduces the contact between the metal and gases such as oxygen and nitrogen during melting, and avoids reactions such as oxidation and nitriding. Subsequently, the heating system heats the metal raw materials placed in the crucible according to the set curve, gradually melting them. Afterwards, subsequent testing or forming operations can be carried out, and the cooling process can be controlled according to demand to solidify and form the metal.
Direct heating method: Some melting furnaces use direct heating method, which means that the heat generated by fuel combustion or resistance elements is directly transferred to the furnace material. This method has high thermal efficiency and a simple furnace structure, but harmful impurities in the combustion products may affect the quality of the furnace charge.

Precautions for using metal melting furnaces:
Fire and explosion prevention safety: Smoking or using open flames near the melting furnace is prohibited, as the high temperature environment and the presence of flammable substances increase the risk of fire. At the same time, it is necessary to ensure that the workplace is equipped with sufficient fire-fighting equipment and regularly inspected and maintained.
Focused operation to avoid mistakes: During operation, one should maintain a high level of focus and avoid distractions that may lead to misoperation, such as setting temperature parameters incorrectly or forgetting to close a certain valve, which may cause serious safety accidents or quality issues.
Response to abnormal situations: In the event of equipment failure, molten metal leakage, or other abnormal situations, the machine should be immediately shut down and reported to the relevant responsible personnel. Do not attempt to solve complex problems on your own to avoid causing greater losses.
Good ventilation ensures health: Maintaining good ventilation conditions is crucial as it can effectively prevent the accumulation of toxic and harmful gases and protect the physical health of operators. Forced ventilation can be achieved by installing equipment such as exhaust fans and ventilation fans.
Regular maintenance and upkeep: Regularly inspect and maintain the melting furnace, including cleaning the furnace, replacing worn parts, calibrating instruments and meters, etc., to ensure the normal operation of the equipment and extend its service life.
