Correct installation and maintenance of smoke detectors
Date: 2025-10-22Read: 1
Smoke detectors (also known as smoke fire detectors) are mainly used to detect the smoke generated in the early stages of a fire. By issuing an alarm, they remind personnel to take timely measures to reduce casualties and property damage caused by the fire. The independent smoke detector can work independently, while the networked model can be linked with mobile phones and other devices to achieve remote monitoring and intelligent linkage. Smoking detectors (smoke alarms) are safety devices that trigger alarms and prevent fires by monitoring the concentration of smoke particles in the air.
Smoking detectors are mainly monitored through two technologies, and the differences in their principles directly affect their applicable scenarios.
Ionic: There is a trace amount of radioactive material inside, which normally forms a stable current. Smoke entering will interfere with the current and trigger an alarm.
Photoelectric type: The light emitted by the transmitting end is stably received by the receiving end. Smoke particles scatter light, causing the receiving end to perceive abnormal light signals and trigger an alarm.
Ionizing/photoelectric smoke detection
Ionizing type: By ionizing air with radioactive substances, an electric current is generated. Smoke particles enter and obstruct the flow of the current, triggering an alarm.
Photoelectric type: using infrared LED light source and photoelectric sensor, the scattered light of smoke particles is captured by the sensor, triggering an alarm.
Application scenario: Traditional smoke alarms often use this technology, which is suitable for fire warning, but may falsely report dust or water vapor.
Proper installation and maintenance are prerequisites for ensuring the effective operation of detectors.
Installation location: It should be installed in the center of the ceiling or at least 30 centimeters away from the wall, avoiding close proximity to ventilation openings, kitchen stoves, or bathrooms to prevent false alarms or detection failures.
Regular testing: Press the testing button once a month to check if the alarm sound is normal; If using battery power, the battery needs to be replaced once a year.
Service life: The service life of ordinary household smoke alarms is usually 8-10 years, and they should be replaced in a timely manner after expiration to avoid performance degradation.
