Thermo Fisher Scientific recently reported its third quarter revenue, with a total of $5.92 billion in revenue from its four business units, a year-on-year increase of 16%. Organic revenue increased by 10%, with a net income of 709 million US dollars, an increase of 31% compared to the same period last year's 534 million US dollars, maintaining a strong growth momentum.
Geographically, Marc Casper, President of Thermo Fisher Scientific, pointed out that China is a region with "particularly strong growth", with revenue growth exceeding 20% in the third quarter. He said that just a few years ago, China's life science research was still very limited, but today, this country is "increasingly contributing to our research results". He added that Thermo Fisher Scientific has established medical and low-temperature EM centers in China to showcase its technology and will open a new commercial office in Beijing.

Q3 performance of four business departments
In the third quarter, Thermo Fisher Life Science Solutions revenue increased to $1.5 billion, a 9% increase from $1.38 billion in the third quarter of 2017, with organic revenue growing by 10%. The growth in this field mainly comes from bioproduction, bioscience, and clinical next-generation sequencing.
The revenue from analytical instruments increased by 12% year-on-year to $1.33 billion, compared to $1.19 billion in the same period last year, and organic revenue also increased by 12%. All businesses in this field are growing across the board.
Professional diagnostic revenue increased by 6% from $840 million in the third quarter of 2017 to $890 million. Organic revenue increased by 7%. The growth of this niche market is mainly due to the company's healthcare market channels and its transplant and clinical diagnostic businesses.
The revenue from laboratory products and services (including Patheon acquired in August 2017) increased by 28% from $1.93 billion a year ago to $2.47 billion. The organic revenue of this department increased by 11%. The revenue growth mainly comes from clinical trial logistics business and research and safety market channels.

Thermo Fisher Q3 has launched many new instruments for life sciences and professional diagnostics, such as Invitrogen EVOS M5000 cell imaging system, Thermo Scientific Phenom Pharos desktop scanning electron microscope, Thermo Scientific ISQ EM mass spectrometer, and Phadia 200 allergy and autoimmune system in Europe.
