Guidelines for Using Platinum Ring Surface Tensioner
Date: 2025-07-17Read: 0
Among the numerous instruments used to measure the surface tension of liquids,Platinum ring surface tensiometerWith its principles and relatively simple operation, it is widely used in many fields such as chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, etc. Mastering its correct usage is crucial for obtaining accurate and reliable surface tension data.
Before use, the instrument needs to be prepared first. Place the instrument on a stable workbench to avoid vibration and tilting that may affect the measurement results. Connect the power supply, turn on the instrument, and allow it to preheat for a period of time to bring the internal system to a stable working state. At the same time, check whether the platinum ring is clean. If there are stains or impurities, carefully clean and dry it with a suitable solvent to ensure the purity of the platinum ring surface, so as not to affect the contact effect with the liquid during measurement.

After the instrument is preheated, set the parameters. Based on the properties of the measured liquid and the expected range of surface tension, input relevant parameters such as liquid density, test temperature, etc. on the instrument's operation panel. The accurate setting of these parameters can provide more precise basis for subsequent measurement calculations. Different liquids require targeted adjustment of parameters to meet measurement needs due to their differences in composition and physical properties.
Next, place the sample. Carefully place the liquid to be tested in a clean glass container, the amount of liquid should be sufficient to submerge the platinum ring, but not too much to cause overflow. During the placement process, it is important to avoid the formation of bubbles as their presence may interfere with the measurement results. If bubbles are accidentally generated, gently shake the container or use a fine needle to break through the bubbles to ensure a smooth liquid surface.
After everything is ready, start the measurement operation. Slowly place the platinum ring into the liquid, keeping it horizontal and vertically descending as much as possible to avoid collision with the container wall. After the platinum ring is fully immersed in the liquid, it is slowly lifted upwards. During this process, the instrument will detect the change in tension on the platinum ring through a sensitive sensor. As the platinum ring rises, a thin film will form on the surface of the liquid and adhere to the platinum ring, and the change in tensile force is closely related to the surface tension of the liquid. The instrument converts tension data into surface tension values based on preset programs and algorithms, and displays them on the screen.
During the measurement process, attention should be paid to the continuity and stability of the operation, avoiding sudden pulling or shaking of the platinum ring to avoid disrupting the equilibrium state of the liquid surface and affecting the measurement accuracy. After each measurement is completed, the platinum ring should be cleaned promptly to prepare for the next measurement. If multiple measurements need to be taken and averaged to improve data accuracy, it is important to ensure that the conditions for each measurement are as consistent as possible, including the temperature of the liquid and the cleanliness of the platinum ring.
After the measurement is completed, turn off the power of the instrument, organize the instrument and experimental platform, and properly store the used platinum rings. By correctly using the platinum ring surface tension meter, the surface tension of liquids can be accurately measured, providing strong data support for research and development in related fields.
