ABB robot teaching pendant maintenance guide: from fault diagnosis to component replacement
Date: 2025-10-28Read: 0
As the core device for human-machine interaction in industrial robots,ABB robot teaching pendant is prone to typical problems such as display screen malfunction, button failure, and communication interruption during long-term operation. This article combines engineering practice and equipment principles to systematically summarize the rapid diagnosis methods and maintenance processes for common faults.

1、 Troubleshooting of Power System Malfunctions
1. Phenomenon: The teaching pendant cannot be turned on, frequently loses power, or the indicator light is abnormal.
2. Diagnostic steps:
① Power connection check: Use a multimeter to check the output voltage of the power adapter. If the voltage fluctuates by more than 10%, replace the adapter.
② Interface and cable testing: visually inspect the power interface for oxidation and corrosion, and use an insulation resistance tester to test the insulation performance of the cable.
③ Battery status verification: For models with built-in batteries, use a battery tester to test the voltage. If it falls below 3.6V, replace the CR2032 lithium battery.
2、 Display and Touch System Repair
1. Typical faults: blurred screen, unresponsive touch, and missing backlight.
2. ABB robot teaching pendant maintenance plan:
① LCD screen replacement: After disassembling the back cover, use a suction cup tool to separate the screen assembly. When replacing, pay attention to the type of cable interface.
② Touch screen calibration: Enter the system settings menu to perform four point calibration. If calibration fails, check the power supply voltage of the touch control card (5V ± 0.2V).
③ High voltage board maintenance: For non backlight faults, check the output voltage of the step-up transformer, and replace the high-voltage board components if there are any abnormalities.
3、 Communication and interface fault handling
1. Common problems: Data transmission interruption, teaching pendant unable to connect to controller.
2. Solution path:
① Physical layer detection: Use a network tester to detect the line sequence and attenuation rate of the Ethernet interface (RJ45).
② Protocol layer verification: Analyze DeviceNet communication data frames through Wireshark packet capture to confirm the CAN bus baud rate (standard value 250kbps) and node address settings.
③ Interface module replacement: For the DSQC652 communication module, check the input and output impedance of its optocoupler isolation circuit.
  4、 Preventive maintenance system
Establish a three-level maintenance system:
1. Daily inspection: Clean the gaps and dust in the outer shell of the teaching pendant, and use compressed air (pressure 0.2MPa) to blow away foreign objects from the heat dissipation holes.
2. Weekly inspection: Run the self-test program (diagnostic code # 30021) and record the key response time.
3. Monthly inspection: Conduct functional tests on key components, such as the contact resistance of emergency stop buttons.
After the implementation of this system in a certain automobile welding workshop, the average annual failure rate of the teaching pendant decreased from 18 times to 5 times, and the maintenance cost decreased by 67%. Practice has shown that through standardized testing processes and spare parts management, the operational reliability of ABB teaching aids can be significantly improved, providing stable technical support for intelligent manufacturing.
