The black screen of Siemens 840D system is a high-frequency fault during maintenance. 1、 Quick classification and location of black screen faults

2、 Root cause investigation steps (sorted by maintenance experience priority)

1. Power system testing (must be checked!)

Step 1: Measure the critical voltage

Input voltage: Measure the PCU power terminal, which should be 24V DC ± 10% (check if below 21.6V)

Power module output:+5V,+12V,+24V (slightly different models), ripple should be<100mV

Ten years of experience have found that 30% of the black screen in 840D is caused by the aging (bulging/leaking) of electrolytic capacitors on the power board, especially for devices that have been used for more than 5 years

Testing method:

After cutting off the power, observe the power board and focus on the capacitors near the heat sink (high temperature accelerated aging)

Measure the capacitance with a multimeter, and replace it if it falls below 80% of the nominal value

2. Backlight system diagnosis (second priority)

Simple test: Use a flashlight to tilt the screen. If you see a faint image, confirm that it is a backlight problem rather than a damaged LCD screen

Professional measurement: When measuring the output of the backlight inverter with an oscilloscope, it should be a 50-100kHz square wave. If there is no output, the driver board will be damaged

Ten year case: In 2018, during the maintenance of a certain gantry milling machine, it was found that the black screen was caused by the breakdown of the backlight inverter power MOS tube (IRF3205). After replacement, the cost was less than 20 yuan to repair it

3. Troubleshooting of motherboard core faults

Memory and connection check:

Open the PCU back cover, re plug and unplug the memory module, and clean the gold fingers (vibration causing poor contact is common)

Check for loose or oxidized flat cables and LVDS cables

Comprehensive capacitance examination:

All electrolytic capacitors on the motherboard (especially near the CPU and North Bridge) should be replaced immediately if bulges are found

Ten years of experience: Aging of motherboard capacitors is the second leading cause of black screens (about 25%) and is often overlooked

North Bridge chip special inspection:

Touch the North Bridge heat sink, if it is abnormally hot (>60 ℃), it may indicate a chip malfunction

Use an oscilloscope to measure the address/data lines around the North Bridge. At the moment of startup, there is a waveform that disappears, indicating that the chip is basically damaged

4. Troubleshooting software and system settings

Check if there is an error in setting the screen brightness to 0 in the PLC program (can be confirmed through HMI variable monitoring)

System parameter configuration error (such as resolution exceeding the screen support range), can be reset in safe mode

System firmware damage: Use ProSave software to restore the backup image (BI backup before repair! )


3、 Component level maintenance plan (core technology)

1. Power board repair

Typical fault points and repairs:

Fused fuse: Check first and replace later, confirm that there is no short circuit in the later stage, and then replace with a new one (1.6A/250V slow break type)

Damaged rectifier bridge: Measure rectifier components such as KBJ606 and replace them if they break down

Power chip malfunction: UC3843/3845 and other PWM controllers, measuring VCC (12V) and output drive waveform

Batch replacement method for capacitors (for equipment over 5 years old):

Replace all 1000 μ F/16V and 470 μ F/16V electrolytic capacitors on the power board at once (prevention first)

The cost is about 50 yuan, which can solve 40% of the 840D black screen problem

2. Backlight system repair

Backlight driver board repair:

High voltage transformer: measure primary (low resistance) and secondary (high resistance), replace if open circuit

Backlight inverter: Common faults include power transistor breakdown (such as IRF840) or damage to PWM control chip (SG6841)

LED backlight (new model):

Measure the voltage at both ends of the LED string (normal 30-40V). If there is no voltage, check the driver. If the voltage is normal, the LED is damaged

Some models can replace LED light strips separately without the need to replace the entire screen

3. Deep maintenance of motherboard

North Bridge chip replacement:

Applicable: No display during startup, black screen after system startup, and abnormal heating of the North Bridge

Operation: Use BGA rework table, temperature curve: preheating 150 ℃/10min → reflow 245 ℃/10s

Attention: The same model chip (such as GMCH 82852/82855 commonly used in 840D) must be used, and the ball must be implanted again

Capacitor Rebirth Technique:

Replace all bulging capacitors on the motherboard with new products with low ESR and high temperature resistance (105 ℃)

Key focus: Capacitors near CPU power supply, northbridge power supply, and clock circuit

4. Software repair plan

System parameter reset:

Simultaneously press the four corners of the screen to enter bootloader mode, select 'Restore Factory Settings' (use with caution, backup parameters first)

Connect the system using SinuCom NCU software and reload the backed up system image


4、 The ultimate skill summarized from ten years of maintenance experience

1. 'Three board axe' quick repair method (for emergency production)

Restart method: Turn off the power for 30 seconds and then turn it back on (solve 15% of temporary faults)

Visual inspection of capacitors: Open the PCU/OP casing and replace all bulging capacitors directly

External display: Connect the VGA port of the PCU to a regular monitor using a VGA cable. If the display is normal, the screen may malfunction and can be temporarily produced

2. Maintenance suggestions for preventing black screens

Clean the cooling system quarterly to ensure that the fan is functioning properly (overheating is the killer of capacitor lifespan)

Backup system parameters and PLC programs to USB drive annually (black screen recovery key)

For equipment over three years old, it is recommended to replace the power board capacitor preventively (with a cost of less than 200 yuan to avoid downtime losses of tens of thousands of yuan)

Repair process:

Flashlight shining reveals blurry image → Confirm backlight issue

Test backlight driver output for no voltage → Check driver board

Discovered that the fuse resistor (0.22 Ω) on the backlight inverter was burnt out, resulting in damage to the driver chip (SG6841)

Replacing the fuse resistor and chip will cost a total of 35 yuan and take 1 hour to repair
