The core principle of freeze dryer
Date: 2025-11-14Read: 0
freeze dryerThe core principle is based on the three state changes of water and the sublimation phenomenon in a vacuum environment. The entire process can be divided into three stages:
Pre freezing stage: Place the material in a low-temperature environment to rapidly freeze the moisture into ice crystals, ensuring that the moisture exists in solid form and creating conditions for subsequent sublimation processes.
Sublimation drying stage: Under the action of the vacuum pump, the air pressure in the drying chamber is significantly reduced, while the refrigeration system maintains a low-temperature environment. Ice crystals sublime directly into water vapor under low temperature and low pressure conditions, bypassing the liquid stage and being pumped away by a vacuum pump to avoid structural damage caused by heating and melting of the material, while retaining its original form and activity.
Analysis of drying stage: By appropriately increasing the temperature inside the drying chamber, the evaporation and removal of residual moisture can be accelerated to achieve the drying effect.
freeze dryerCompared to traditional drying methods, it has significant advantages:
Low temperature drying: suitable for heat sensitive substances, avoiding problems such as protein denaturation and microbial inactivation caused by high temperatures.
Retaining volatile components: When dried at low temperatures, the loss of volatile components in the substance is minimal, making it suitable for drying chemical products, drugs, and food.
Maintain original form: Dry in a frozen state, with almost no change in volume, and maintain the original structure without concentration.
Loose and porous structure: After drying, the material is loose and porous, appearing sponge like. It dissolves quickly after adding water and returns to its original shape.
Protection of easily oxidizable substances: Drying is carried out under vacuum, with very little oxygen, to protect easily oxidizable substances from damage.
Long term storage: It can eliminate more than 95-99% of moisture, allowing the dried product to be stored for a long time without deterioration.
