The correct operating steps for rotary evaporator
Date: 2025-10-28Read: 0
Rotary evaporator is an important equipment used in laboratories for vacuum distillation, solution concentration, and solvent recovery. It is widely used in various fields such as chemistry, chemical engineering, and biomedicine, and is suitable for sample processing of different properties. Whether it is reflux operation, rapid evaporation of large amounts of solvents, concentration of trace components, or reaction processes that require stirring, ideal results can be achieved.
Measurement steps of rotary evaporator:
1. Preparation work
-Check the integrity of the instrument: ensure that the rotating bottle, condenser tube, receiving bottle, heating bath pot, vacuum pump and other components are intact and undamaged, especially pay attention to whether the glass instrument has cracks or damage, and confirm that all interfaces are well sealed;
-Environmental preparation: Keep the laboratory well ventilated to avoid the accumulation of harmful gases; Prepare reagents and solvents that meet the experimental requirements, paying attention to their purity and quality.
2. Installation and Connection
-Fixed rotating bottle: firmly install the rotating bottle containing the sample on the driving device, adjust the height of the host to make the liquid level of the bath pot higher or level with the liquid level inside the rotating bottle;
-System linkage test: Connect the condensing device and vacuum pump, start the cooling water circulation (tap water or low-temperature cooling equipment can be selected), and provide stable conditions for subsequent operations.
3. Vacuum pumping stage
-Start the vacuum pump: Turn on the power and gradually reduce the system pressure. Observe the reading on the vacuum gauge to determine if the desired vacuum level has been reached; Close the vent valve to maintain a stable low-pressure environment. This process requires attention to sealing to prevent air leakage from affecting efficiency.
4. The synergistic effect of heating and rotation
-Temperature control setting: Set the heating temperature according to the boiling point of the solvent and the characteristics of the sample. It is usually recommended to be 20-30 ℃ lower than the boiling point of the solvent to avoid sample loss or instrument damage caused by boiling; Simultaneously adjust the rotational speed to evenly heat and evaporate the liquid.
5. Monitoring of condensation collection process
-Observation of condensation effect: The solvent vapor flows into the receiving bottle after being cooled by the condensation tube. If insufficient condensation is found (such as water droplets not liquefying), the cooling water flow rate or temperature should be adjusted in a timely manner; Regularly check the solvent level in the receiving bottle to ensure effective recovery.
6. End processing
-Safe pressure relief and shutdown: After the experiment is completed, slowly release the vacuum first, and then turn off the heating and rotation functions; Before disassembling the device, confirm that all components have been cooled to room temperature to prevent burns or residual pressure from causing risks.
