Suanzaoren is the dried and mature seed of Suanzaozi, a plant in the Rhamnaceae family. It has the effect of nourishing the heart and calming the mind, and is a commonly used sedative and hypnotic traditional Chinese medicine. Jujube seed saponin A is one of its effective ingredients for sedation and hypnosis. The determination of saponin A content in jujube seeds can effectively monitor the quality of jujube seeds. Suanzaoren saponin A is a triterpenoid saponin component with weak UV absorption, which is not suitable for UV detection. However, using a mass universal detector ELSD can effectively avoid the above problems and achieve the determination of Suanzaoren saponin A content in Suanzaoren. Shanghai Tongwei Analytical Technology Co., Ltd. has established a HPLC-ELSD method for the determination of saponin A content in jujube seeds in accordance with the requirements of the 2020 edition of the Chinese Pharmacopoeia.
